Flowers Photography Contest Entry
Photo of a single Datura (Datura stramonium) flower, sometimes called moonflower or Devil*s trumpet. Datura is a night bloomer, the large, white sometimes tinged with purple blossoms open in early evening, and wilt by late morning; mine will sometimes last for another day if it is cool and cloudy out. My plants grow into a *bush* form; they are annuals in my area, but I cut them back in the fall and cover with several inches of leaves, so they come back from the roots the following spring. They produce round prickly seed pods full of seeds which easily sprout in the spring. The entire plant is poisonous, so I don?t have to worry about my deer eating them-lol! This flower is from a plant I transplanted to a pot and overwinter in my basement; adjusted sharpness, brightness, saturated color, especially to bring out the purple edging on this flower, darkened background.
