From one of my favorite birding locations- Nida Point. It is located on the east side of an area known as Cumberland Pool. As part of the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge in southern Oklahoma, this large estuary is several miles across from one side to the other. Much of it is very shallow. In fact, from where this was captured, I could have walked out well over 200 meters from shore and never been in water over my knees. (Not counting the mud) It is this shallow depth that is such a draw for wading birds like this Snowy Egret. In addition, there are also dozens of other species in and around the water throughout the year. On this particular day in June of 2023, I counted over 400 birds in under half an hour. In the military, it is what we would call a 'target rich environment.' There were so many birds all around me, I hardly knew which way to point my camera. On a side note, this is the exact same egret that was featured in my previous post, "Da Drop." This one was taken about 45 minutes after that one with a very different lighting scenario.
