Traditional Artwork of the Month Contest Entry
I drawn the Tuscaloosa (EF4), Rainsville/Smithville/Joplin/Hackleburg (EF5) tornadoes. Here is the 6th EF5 from 2011. There was a total of 6 EF5s that touched down that year. Believe it or not this was one of the lesser known EF5 tornadoes that happened that year. This tornado happened in El Reno, OK on May 24, 2011. Crazy to think about considering it had the 3rd most (now 4th most because of the Greensfield, IA tornado that happened (319 mph) earlier this year) windspeed at 295 mph. This tornado tore up an oil rig, it knocked over and destroyed an 10,000 ton crane at the oil rig site. Rolling it over until it looked like a crumbled ball of metal. Slabbed a bunch of homes and businesses even turning a car into a folded piece of paper as it got rapped around a tree. The original picture I drawn this from was kind of black and white (not really, just the color was faded because of the power of the storm) so I used some markers and color pencils to make stand out a bit more.
