This place is in Mahabaleshwar holiday resort, 5 hours drive from Bombay.
This fort is highly significant historically because it is associated with the Great Maratha King, Chhatrapati Shivaji. At the base of this fort, Shivaji killed Adil Shah's commander, Afzal Khan, and routed his army in spite of being far outnumbered in the battle of Pratapgarh. This battle established Shivaji as a significant force in the region, which later led to the establishment of the Maratha Empire.
The fort is located on a hilltop and is relatively well-maintained. People live inside the fort, which also contains a few temples, small eateries, shops selling souvenirs, and a statue of the king, Chhatrapati Shivaji. All the important landmarks within the fort are easily accessible.
There is this 'Bhavani Mata' goddess temple, which is worth going to.
My granddaughter, Veda (13), proudly poses on the steps.
Camera: Android OnePlus cellphone camera.
Enjoy!
