Paddlefish have been around for some 65 million years as fossils show. They do look prehistoric.
The are pretty docile though as they are filter feeders only existing on plankton and algae.
The can typically reach a weight of 150 pounds. Fishing for them involves only snagging them as they do not strike a bait. The meat is a delicacy and they are sought after for their caviar (eggs).
Often called a Spoonbill.
