I think the Dik Dik is my favourite of the African antelope as it is so tiny! It measures between 10 and 15 inches high (the females are larger than the male) which is even smaller than a hare (16-28 inches) and weighs between 4.4 and 13 lb (2-6kg)! They are very shy creatures and are so small that they can barely be seen in the long grass and will run away at an amazing speed of 40km p/h if disturbed. They are monogamous and have lifelong partners and I was told that if one dies the other will give up eating/living and will die soon afterwards. And finally they are called Dik Dik because of the warning noise they make, which sounds the same. I found this one in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, its mate was close by.
