Eastern Swallowtails Mating

I was at my brother's and wife's home on Memorial Day weekend and was headed to their little frog pond for some pictures. On the way I saw an Eastern Swallowtail lying in the grass. It didn't look quite right. I thought it had been attacked by something. When I leaned down to get a closer look it fluttered its wings and rolled to the side. To my surprise I discovered there were two mating butterflies! So glad I had my camera! I'd never seen two butteflies of any kind mating before. Thought these two would be on top of a flower or hanging in a bush, not just lying on the ground, but there they were! Life is full of surprises! I was absolutely thrilled to capture some shots of them! Here's one of them! Cropped so you have more butterfly than grass. Hope you enjoy!
