Manatee at Rest

Oh Manatee!

While away on our boat, we spent time in Islamorada, Florida. At the docks there, the fisherman haul in their days catch and a shore hands filet the catch. All of the excess is thrown into the water, where eagerly awaiting fish of all types, including sharks, and Manatees await their long anticipated meal. Manatees generally do not eat other fish, they feed on sea grasses and mangroves. But when they have to, they will eat lettuce and fish guts. This Manatee had just finished his meal and turned over for a nap, wedging himself right into the corner of the pier, so he could be first in line if any more treats were to be had. He also enjoyed a nice fresh water bath from a hose, courtesy of the dock hand. Manatees love fresh water from a hose or any other water fixture. Taken with my Canon EOS 90D.
