Initial impact 5
Presentation 5
Color harmony 4.5 ( Too red? I think cream colors can help to soften it a bit)
Center of interest 5
Story telling ability 5
Technique 5 (great job on the textures, but there is space for improvements for the long lines like the lines on the wall :) )

This makes me want to paint my grandma as well :)
And maybe my mom too.

Thank you for your review Elvina, how would you improve the lines on the wall?
reply by AlienVoyager on 26-Jun-2009
Hm. I used to draw interiors and buildings. Find a long piece of card (about the same length of the wall height) and a ruler. Place the card on the side you don't want to paint.
Position of your elbow is important, make sure it's not on the table, coz you'll need to paint a (/ an almost) straight line at once. The card will help to absorb the water from going to the other side of the wall. :)

Ok, I see, you mean that little overlap in the corner, I can still fix that, thank you for the tip:)

LOL. Pardon my English ^_^ And btw, sometimes it's better to leave it empty than using white color. The white color in watercolors usually creates blurry effect... ^_^

Hi Katya. 90 years, that's great. I never met any of my grandparents. She looks like a lovely person. You did a great job with this. The colors and shadowing looks great to me. You are most gifted at this. Thank you for sharing!

What a wonderful watercolors piece, Katya, the colors looking so vivid, the light and shadow techniques are excellently applied, it gives an excellent story telling ability too, the Grandma's dress was dark blue or black, whilst the seat sofa was red... These colorful various colors including the next wall in different were successfully added more at its initial impact on reviewers. From what i seeing, the left arm FIST was not perfectly drawn..! What do you think..?!

Thank you for your review Bette!
I did struggle with the hands and face in this painting, I did it from a photo and the smaller details weren't very clear and I didn't do too good making them up:))

Nver mind, just kindly put in mind that the Artist-sight, is different and not as other normal individuals.. Don't you think so..? You are very talented that this small drawing error cannot, at any event, reduce your rating. Best of luck.

I totally agree that we have different sight, I guess that's what makes an artist:))
Thank you again for your time and feedback!

Katya this is truly amazing and your best work I have reviewed to date. I can easily picture this in a high street gallery. The colours, expression, the pose -- all superb. I would give more stars if I had them. You should be very proud of this piece.

I have nothing to compare to but this painting is lovely. Your detail, colors and hues blend very well. The expression on her face and the eye focus reflects a women of wisdom. Very nicely done.

This is stunning. Your detail is so good and balanced, but not overdone. You even have the latch to her necklace showing.

The colors you used for her aging skin tones couldn't be better. I like your contrast, which is terribly important to show age, mood, etc.

Your use of red throughout the painting gives it life.

The pencil lines make her clothing lie realistically and creates a warm mood, along with the red, of course.

I feel like I could reach right into it and brush my fingers against her old cheek.

It's hard to stop looking at this picture. Truly beautiful.

Good composition and color contrast. The eyes are a bit lost. There is no spark in it. Otherwise there is a good technique.

Nicely done with the portrait style artwork here. Your use of the watercolours ad coluored pencils has worked wel. The detail is excelelnt and the presentation is good for this. Nice technique for the overall of the artwork!
