Excellent contest entry. Your creation of your set was a good choice. Your camera settings and editing along with your initial framing and cropping have made this a dynamic capture. A flame makes it hard to control saturation and still sustain it's real characters. Although I may have tried one more slight lowering on the saturation amount for the flame and the melting side of the candle, you have done a fine job. Good luck in the contest!

Thank you very much for your kind review and fine suggestions. I am in the process of trying different mixed media solution to turn the brightnes of the white at the candle flame down without damiging the blue hue. However the light and saturation ammond at the candle eas intended to emphasize the shape of the fairy tale horse.

It does, somewhat look like a horse, but that is not what I think is most attractive about the photo. I think you you got a really nice clear, sharp photo of the flame itself. Nice light and colors. The only thing that is a bit of a distraction for me is the placement within the frame. Since the subject/candle is the only object in the photo, it would have been better (to me) to move it to the right slightly in order to center it more left to right. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much for your kind review and advise. I am aware that centering is a la mode at this time, favored by many, but it is not my style. Of curse centering in a square frame warrants the balance of a picture, but I de centered the candle intentionally The dark space at right is also intentional in order to keep a balance between positive space [candle] and negative space, as a balance between light and darkness.

I can appreciate your point of view, and your artistic license in this piece. Many times, I actually PREFER the off-centered look myself, just was something that jumped out at me in this particular one. I still like it very much though and I wish you the best of luck!!! L

It would be pretty boring is we all had the same point of view on art and photography.

Lovely creative and unique entry for this contest. I love how you managed to make the candle look like a horse, the focus is lovely and the lighting perfect.

I saw something but wasn't sure what it was until I read your description and it works! Good composition and use of light. The more I look at it, the more I see. I can almost make out the horse's eye and mane. Best of luck in the contest.

This photo had good impact and reminds me of some of the candles I use to photograph when I was first staring out in photography. Good focus, composition, contrast between black and white and the soft yellows and reds.

I can definitely see the horse in the candle. A beautiful, warm glow you've captured and are sharing with us on this late winter day. Good luck in the contest.

Nice indoor shot. The way you meld the two candles is a very clever trick. The melted wax resembles that horse. Thanks for sharing.

Effective with the uneven wax around the edges of the candle. I like the light giving a change of colours in the wax. The flame is centred showing the wick clearly. The black background works but may the candle could have been more centred and the black area slightly reduced in size.

Thank you very much for your kind review and your input. I am aware that centering is ala mode at this time and favored by many. Centering in a square format is indeed a way to ensure the balance of a picture. I sometimes do so if I have the a symmetrical subject. Otherwise I prefer not to center my subjects. The piece was cropped this way to warrant the balance of the piece. The balance of positive and negative space as well as the balance of light and dark. Sorry to disappoint you.

I love it when an artist gets creative with the most unusual ways. It captures your imagination and you actually see what it is they were trying to show you. great work!
