A really nice shot that makes the bumblebee seem as large as a World War II bomber. I like the colors in the bee but might desaturate the blues a bit. The half sky, half cloud background is outstanding though.

Chuck,
A wonderful stop action picture of this Bumble Bee in flight against the clear blue sky the sunlight shining on it's eyes & the movement blue of it's wings a very difficult shot to take. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus on it's head.

A nice shot of this bee. You have a great close up of him. I like seeing his busy little wings going a mile a minute. I know it must of not been easy to get this shot. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much. I was surprised when I saw the shot afterward I downloaded it. Thought - how did I do that?

lol...love your title Chuck and KUDOS for your patience capturing this guy.

Wow but I am soooo happy they are NOT really this big...lol...OMG the horror! Your blue sky is lovely and I like the bit of clouds you've included. I like the wings and the detail of the antenna and bit of his face we see. Unfortunately, shooting up facing the light has caused all detail from his underside to be lost....he looks like a BIG scary guy tough. So...as you suggested I "buzzed off and enjoyed" I'm sure this guy will be out and about your Rhododendron for weeks to come. Get some more shots of him and bet I'll be able to give you back that .5 star Chuck!

Thanks Deb. Yeah, I realized the deficiencies in the shot once I saw it - but it was just too cool not to post. ;-)

Oh he's great Chuck....definitely too cool to pass up. He still hanging around??
reply by the author on 20-Jun-2017
Yup the two of them are still here though the rhododendron is gone. They are feasting on other flowers now.

lol...you'll have 'friends' for the summer Chuck.

I am impressed - getting a shot in flight is amazing. You are right, the wings are the best feature. I like how he looks alone in the universe too. Good job.

He kind of does look like he might be taunting you! I like the way the sun highlights his upper body. The wings look pretty cool in this shot and the sky color is a great background. I think the angle works.

I love this photograph! The gorgeous, vibrant blue of the sky behind the blackness of the bee really makes for a dynamic piece and of course the fuzzy motion of the wings is awesome! I also think there's perfect placement of the clouds. Nice job!

Never mind the motion blur as long as you've captured something as interesting as this!

Perfect timing!
A rare find!
Nice hazy clouds as backdrop.

Maybe you had a very large opening and a very slow speed!
The technique here is just to pan your shots--sway the cam to the speed he is flying...to capture sharper images.

Nice perspective & narrow DOF.
Subdued lighting.
Centered upper framing.

Thanks for sharing...
