Very interesting photo. Even though your day was foggy you can still see the carvings very clearly. What a wonderful piece of history that is captured in this photo. Best of luck in the contest.

totally agree..we should learn from it..not sweep it under the rug. besides most of these folks are gripping must have failed in history classes..back then they didnt consider themselves as americans..they consider themselves as the state that they are from. (both north and south) when the south succeeded from the union the north went to war to keep the union..not for slavery..did you know that when Lincoln gave the Emancipation Proclamation mobs in new york city ran down and killed 19 blacks, cause they felt mislead. they didnt want their love ones to die in the war over them..yep..looks like there are biggots on both sides of the mason dixon line. its a good capture. the clarity is great. the capture of the light is great. the angle of the shot of this monument is great. the image is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. good eye and great job overall.

Thanks so much for your insight and generous rating. I was hesitant to post such a controversial shot. But, decided that sometimes that is what art is supposed to do.

I think the B/W presentation is very appropriate for the subject. The fog seems to symbolize how many of today's public are trying to remove symbols of our history and the past. Let's all hope the fog lifts. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting shot.
Your narrative is timely considering today's events. I do agree the civil war was about other issues. However, it wacpredominantly about wanting to keep an economic system and way of life in place that was built on the backs of the misery of others.
The photograph is rather haunting. I feel like I am looking at ghosts in a way.
With the black and white rendering, it looks like blood running down the mountainside. Quite apropos given the subject matter actually.
Structurally speaking,
it needs some cropping and more contrast to punch it out from the background.
It's a little flat.

A fascinating insight into a piece of controversial history in the USA which you have clearly made your feelings known about, whilst also pointing out the bare facts; they can't be ignored or forgotten. A fantastic shot of these old carvings done during more turbulent times (or are they?), at least within your country itself, and offers a great glimpse at the expression used then through artwork, no doubt intended to show future generations the reality that was faced during this period. Captured wonderfully with a great POV and clarity, showing the still well visible carvings that depict the activity of this rather grim chapter of history. A fantastic choice of shot and great, innovative choice for the competition - best of luck.

A well taken shout with good structure and composition.I don't really have much of an idea about the American history as we didn't cover it in education but im sure it was very interesting..your photograph perhaps encourages me to look at it in the foreseeable future

Those who do not remember the past should be condemned to repeat it!--George Samtayana!
Impressive capture on a foggy day--one of the most hard condition to shoot sharply...
Creative concept. Innovative approach. Imaginative presentation.
Diffused focusing.
An artistic rendition. Monochromatic colors. Excellent details & features. Impressive setting & textures. Thanks for sharing...
Good luck at the polls...!
