This is an excellent capture, Fred. I think the beautiful shade of grey/blue lavender is the initial impact for me. It is the same in the glass like reflection. I love the slightest ripple in the reflection of the neck. The darkness surrounding the heron is a lovely stage. And that bit of shoreline with a bit of foliage brings reality to the scene.
My only change would be to expand the frame above more than below...but probably a bit below as well. This can be done in post processing in PS. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest!

Fred, this is your Finest capture of a Grey Heron so far. Your focus is Razor sharp, eye clarity is spot on and your use of natural light is fantastic. I love the water reflection and the way the early morning sun lights him up.
White balance is perfect on all colors.
