A spring show of rhododendrons

This is a beautiful capture of these flowers. I didn't realize rhododendrons liked cold weather enough to live in MN. They have always seemed a bit tropical to me. And I have never had one, believe it or not! this photo makes me wonder why.

Your fuchsia is a beautiful shade...with the light just enough to bring out the whites and yet not wash out the deeper colors. The stamen are tiny and clearly captured as well.

I really like how your deep shadowed bg has a few spots of light. It makes it seem that the morning light is just reaching these blooms as they are reaching out of their bed.

Perfect framing... creating a framer. Well done and best of luck...if the contest is not over. :( Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the wonderful review. It is refreshing to get your views on my work!

It seems like all the "tropical" flowers such as Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Magnolias, etc have been hybridized to be cold hardy.
Much of this work has been done at our local Arb. It is fun to see how things have changed over the last 30 years.

Thanks again for the great review and high rating!

PS-both azaleas and rhododendrons need a very low ph soil. So additions of sulfur would likely be need to get them to thrive.

Wonderful initial impression: these are such beautiful blooms, the color is gorgeous! These are well photographed with good focus and I especially like the lighting in this image, it really is beautiful to view, the purple tones and variations of tone and the sharp center details composed against the darker background really is pleasing to the eye! Very well presented!

Thanks much Pat for the nice review. When I have to shoot in midday sun, I typically use spot metering on the brightest part of the subject and let the rest go black. One way to overcome poor lighting times. Thanks again!

These Rhododendrons are truly beautiful Allan, and you have pictured them so well. I especially like the colors of them, and the darkness of the background. It makes the flowers stand out in an excellent way.

Your photo is also nice and sharp and it is clear and well defined details to be seen in all the flowers. I also think the exposure is perfect.

The photo is nicely cropped and the flowers well placed within the frame. The vignette you added works so well. A truly lovely and well taken photo, and with an excellent DOF.

Thanks a lot Annie, I tend to take these type of shots during bright sunlight. If I expose for the brightest, the dark background comes along for the ride. I appreciate your time on this review and glad you liked it.

These lavender rhodedrendrons are gorgeous and beautifully captured in the light. I like the dark background as it really makes them eyecatching and grabs the viewers attention. The colors are wonderful as you can still see the subtle shadows and minor detail in the blooms. A very appealing photograph of a
Gorgeous spring flower.
