A beautiful picture of the two male Monarch Butterflies on the Thistle blossom looking as if they are about to fight for the right to stand on top, when they could be sucking nectar! Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & razor sharp focus.

Thanks for the great review! They are patiently waiting for the sun to rise high enough to shine on them so they can warm up and fly off(they are so cooperative on a cool morning :) )

Such a perfect photo. It looks as if they are having a conversation with each other. The details of the wings and legs is as good as it can get. Lovely.

Oh isn't that rare! In a photo I mean. I used to see groups of Monarch's in Mexico handing onto each other, onto bushes and so on, but this is a rarely clear photo of two together like this. Daphne Oberon

That must have been something to see them in Mexico,I?ve seen pictures and videos of them flying about and roosting, the number of butterflies is incredible. These are two of the many Monarch?s that I have raised and released so far this year. These Were among several I released early in the morning when it was still cool out, they were quite happy to stay put until the sun warms them up,then off they fly! :) LeeAnn

Thank you very much for your positive review! You raise butterflies!? I didn't know people did that. How intriguing. The Monarchs in Baja liked a plant with white sap similar to milkweed and would pile all over them the a flock of parrots did trees in the tropics. Do you raise/cultivate (?) any other species of Butterfly? We had the giant Morpho's in Guatemala with such large wings they seemed more like the size of slow flying blue bats. You could feel them fan you as they flew by; chopped fruit would attract them.... Daphne Oberon

They sound so cool! I have reared a couple of black swallowtails every once in awhile when I have come across a female laying eggs. Last few years I have been raising large silk moths,I released 30 lunas, and have four Cercropia caterpillars that are going to go into cocoons. Have some luna eggs from some that had mated,as well as some polyphemus moth eggs, just waiting for them to hatch. It's a fun hobby, although time consuming,I like using the moths and butterflies in some of my photos when I can get them to cooperate!

I would be fascinated to know how you do this and what climate you are in! Obviously you have a lot of knowledge on the subject!

Very nice shot, and getting two on one flower is a great catch. Good color in the butterflies an in the thistle. Good focus so that all of the details are visible. Thank you for raising them, we need more. Good background. Well seen and well taken.
