Congratulations on your placement in the contest. Well deserved. I learn so much from other artists like you, so I had not considered backlighting per se as the photography form. Something new to try!
I love your profile statement about fair and honest critiques, please consider this for my work as well. I would really appreciate learning what I could do better.

Thanks a lot Christine for your comments. I am glad you too like reviews that are meant to help or give other options. I think we both just want to become better and better photographers/artists. I will take a look at your portfolio and give you my opinions also, just meant to help! So thanks for your feedback.

Flowers and leaves always look good when backlit, and this Hibiscus also a truly lovely colors. I like how we can see the shadow from the stamens through the petal of the flower, and with the nicely softened background, it is standing out in an excellent way.
The photo is sharp showing such clear and well defined details in the petals and the green leaves, and the exposure is perfect.
The photo is nicely cropped and the flower has got a fine placement within the frame. A truly lovely and well taken photo for this contest, and I wish you luck.

Well done! Once again your focus, framing, and lighting are all good. I really like how you showed this photo from the back of the flower. It shows off all of the beautiful colors in the flower. Thanks again for sharing. :)

Hi Allan, it's always fun to look for different angles and lighting to photograph flowers! Most people just shoot straight on . I really like the backlit petals ! I love the hibiscus and it's one that is not even brought to Ak.for sale. This is gorgeous in the rich orange tones , I can see sharp , clear detail and the texture of the beautiful hibiscus petals the casing is silhouetted against the light which gives this a unique look. I can see the intricate center detail too! This is well photographed with spot on focus, the image is clear to view, the lighting / exposure is well managed, colors and tones are natural. I like the arrangement in the frame with the leaves reaching from right to the left. The green provides a nice contrast to the vivid orange. This is well composed and presented!

Thanks Pat, lol, as soon as I saw your comments about the spots I went to the file and got rid of them as fast as I could. Funny how one overlooks something like this but when pointed out is painfully obvious. Thanks for point this out for me.
Thanks also for such a glowing review as this. Your words are worth more than a 10 star rating!!!! Appreciated!
