Great focus and lighting give me a view of duck I have never seen. The Coot has a very attractive head covering and unique colors. The water looks cold and I like the crop which brings us into the scene for a great look.

I do find coot chicks so adorable, with their little bald heads, but what I really love are the adults enormous feet, so out of proportion to their bodies! But I digress, sorry!
Great choice of subject for the nature competition, with that added awww factor. They are both very well placed within the scene, the detail is good showing not only their fluffiness, but also the drops of water on their backs; while the image is mostly muted colours, the orange of their heads and beaks immediately draw the viewer back to the subject.

A beautiful picture of this pair of newly hatched Coot chicks. It's said they are so ugly only their mother could love them. The droplets of water clinging to their fluffy black down & the sky reflected on the ripples of the lake's surface are an added bonus. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.
