Wow Charlotte! This is an amazing image, it was perfect timing to capture this incredible scene, the butterflies are gorgeous and so interesting to see! I love the color and pattern, it's one I haven't seen before! Capturing them as they mate really makes this one special!
Spot on focus, this image is sharp and clear, exposure is correct, colors and tones appear natural.
Well composed and presented! This is an amazing entry for this contest! Very best wishes to you!

I think you weren't the only one getting hot and steamy looking at this pair haha! A well timed and very well captured image of these butterflies with their unique version of the birds and the bees! Lovely detail and a great frame-filling image.

A magnificent catch beautifully captured despite the 'steamy' conditions.
The colors are marvelous; I especially like the red and bronze in the female.
The image is crystal clear and the luminosity in the female's wings is gorgeous.
Just perfect, Bravo!

Charlotte,
This is a very beautiful picture of the Great Mormon Butterflies mating the female is on top & the male below. Her lower wings & the tip of her left upper wing are damaged. The male below has damage to his upper wing tips his lower wings are hidden by the female. The light shining down on the female highlights their colors & patterns. They both stand out from the blurred green background. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.
Good luck in the contest.
Susan

As I did Susan, but you still knew which one is which, which is pretty impressive in itself! :)

A fine entry into the competition presented here! Your full and appropriate composition offers us an enjoyable view of the mating action out there. Shades, tones and colours are good. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Well done and good luck!

Thank you so much for the six Brian! Very much appreciated.
It wasn?t in the Uk, but in America I think - I couldn?t find any recent half decent bug photos, so had to dig into my archives I?m afraid.

Ha ha ha! Actually yesterday I suddenly remembered I?d taken a huge spider carrying an egg sack in France that I could have entered - too late now though! :(

The butterflies are beautiful. I don't know if they are considered bugs or not; best wishes in the contest. The background is simply lovely. The whole composition is lovely.

Thank you Glena. I did check online and they are definitely insects, but the trouble for us Brits is that we don?t really use the word bug in the same way as in the US - are all insects bugs there or only the creepy crawly ones???
My fingers are crossed that they are! Lol

Welcome, friend. And, I agree. If insects, they are the most beautiful kind. Anyway, fine capture indeed.

Hi Charlotte.. This take is simply incredible, I never seen this behaviour before thanks for sharing.

Papilio memnon - Great Mormon it is and a beauty at that.

The camera settings are spot on perfect but what makes this piece so special it is the only time one can see both top and bottom sides of the same species.

Outstanding photography... Bob
