Good morning Allan - you are right, technology just continues to replace previous required knowhow and skill.

Yes - your phone certainly performed to achieve a shallow depth of field, whereas he retained the patterns on the face of the glass while softening the back of the glass and the straw. Which is exactly what you would get with a DSLR if handheld.

Regardless, I know this was a test shot - but I do find the image very interesting in composition and presentation. I'm always drawn to simple subject matters that present as different, artistic and fun.

Thanks Kathy, I to like simple shots. I can fully appreciate a shot of Half Dome as well as a close up photo of an ant. There is beauty in simple things.

I have really mixed emotions on how easy photography is if you want it to be. On my Sony mirrorless, I mostly shoot in manual as I like the control. With the phone it is mostly point and shoot, the software does all the thinking. On an aside, that is how I feel about AI art, very simple, a few words and in 10 seconds you have a masterpiece. Ah....

Yeah! I'm sincerely torn as well. While the industrial revolution saved our backs (tractors, cars, washing machines etc.) I find the technical revolution attempts to dummy down our brains. Yes! I've been witnessing a grove of AI images on Facebook and naively, folks are thinking they are reality. It scares me to think of where we are heading. I guess the (movie) Terminator is becoming nearer to reality.

The new phone cameras are very impressive! This is such an interesting image, the reflections in the glass , the straw with the tiny droplets , the pattern of the glass are all well defined here, it's also interesting to study the light here .
Well captured Allan with good focus, this image is clear and your exposure is correct. The colors and tones appear true and natural. Well composed to fill the frame. Well presented!

Thanks Pat, it was a good example of how easy photography has become. I just pressed the shutter button. I hope this does not lead to "real" photography skills becoming less important.
