Hi Ray , I definitely would not call this a still life! There's a lot of action going on here.Looks like a party was going on with all those champagne glasses. I see faces in there. I see them as party goers having one heck of a night! You can conjure up a lot of stories with this image. I can even see what I perceive as a robin next to that face in the middle. Love the colors and how the image really makes you use your imagination. Very interesting! Good Luck in the contest! :o) Nancy

Hi Nancy, I see you had some fun with my still life. There is absolutely no action in the painting, only a pile of inanimate things, including wine glasses, bottles, a poor sketch of christ, flowers bowls, cups and a dead bird. All the elements of a still life are there. What you observed is the interaction of bright colors and shapes, that is the illusion and you perceived a party going on because of that. That is because your imagination reacting to all the bright colors and shapes.

    Here is the definition:
A still life (pl.: still lifes) is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which are either natural (food, flowers, dead animals, plants, rocks, shells, etc.) or human-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, etc.

Nancy the bottom line here is Art is amazing and it influences thoughts and that is when the mind takes over and creates its own stories.

Thank you for your thought provoking and wonderful review. The mind is amazing and it can be influenced by art. I am glad you were entertained. All the best to you. Ray

Hi Ray, I know there is no action in your image, but the wonderful thing about art and poetry is that your imagination rules what you see and feel. I'm sure you're amazed by what people see in your art. I bet there are times when your painting that you don't know where your image is headed until it's done. I know that happens to me in both the above. I once wrote a poem about "Ten Poets on a Mountain". All of the poets saw the same view but each one saw and described it differently. They say a picture describes a thousand words, but words describe a 1000 images.
I totally understand what you're talking about. Very cool image that was fun to view! :o) Nancy

Brian, Thank you for your fine review. As far as I know there no specific rules for still life or art in general. I like it wide open and different is good. Ray

Still Life... interesting. I think this is the most unusual "still life" image I have ever seen! A huge pile of champagne glasses, bowls and cups with a face peeking out.
A contemplative piece to me. This could be titled, Demise of The Alcoholic.
See how you are, Ray? You got me thinking, here.
I am truly fascinated.
So about this goodbye you said in December.... Uh huh... ;)

Jewell, You see thats what art is all about, the non verbal message and inspiration that is exchanged. That's what you get from art. I will explain about the goodbye, Ray

I think this must be the strangest still life I have ever seen, and when I looked at it from a distance, I first thought this was a set up of flowers in a bowl. But having a closer look I could see both glasses and small bowls, and even I face in the center. And a little mouse at the bottom right.

I also like the dark background and the frame you have added to hold the composition together. I like the way all the different items are outlined in black or white.

The tall format works well, and the still life has got a fine centered position. Indeed a great looking and well done abstract painting Ray.

Spectacular still life presentation Ray!
The soft, spring like colors are showing so nicely against the green background. The huge accumulation of the almost equal size blooms is so creative and the overall presentation is pleasing to the eye.

This is awesome Ray, I can see that you have put a lot of time and thought into this bouquet of 2025. I see the champagne glasses and beer glasses , a bowl , lots of faces, coffee cups and fruit, there are even a few flowers. It's like a celebration ! I like the green wooden container that holds it all.
Very well created, I like the hidden objects and faces, this makes me think of the pages that ask you to find certain things hidden.
I like the colors you have used here.
Very well arranged and presented! This was fun to view!
