beautful image. I can see why it won. Can't get much better than this. The focus, details, lighting, colors are all fabulous. This is overall a wonderful presentation. Thanks for posting it!

Yep, this deserves a six. Beautifully composed with the background bokeh making this little girl just pop out of the image. Focus is spot on as is the composition. A fine shot and good luck in the contest

🤣😂😅 Oh whoops...well I did spill some ink on a couple of the pics, but I'm sure it won't show...too much. And I think I may have left my shoes behind in the hot air baloon basket - I took them off to go paddling in the lake - so there may be some residue sand in there too?
    Sorry, I meant well.
reply by Len Shood on 19-Apr-2025
Right that's where the sand came from then :-(

Oh dear you noticed it then, sorry!
Did you find my shoes by the way? They were my favourite Doc Martins :(
reply by Len Shood on 20-Apr-2025
No, sorry. A kitten from another photo was wearing them and, well, impossible to pull them away from her. Maybe a cat treat ?...

Will this do to strike a deal with her?
If not tell her I'll have her guts for...my guitar... I don't wear garters!

Wow! You've captured a wonderful moment in nature! The framing is well thought out, and the use of light and shadows adds both depth and character. The colours are vibrant, and the composition ties everything together seamlessly. Excellent effort! Good luck! Regret I'm out of sixes, which this richly deserves.

    Hi Susan,
Thank you SO much for your great review and for the addition of that elusive sixth star! Very much appreciated indeed!
This one is actually the female, and pretty as she is the male is stunning with a bright purple breast and a more orange back - look it up online and you'll see what I mean.
    Thanks again :)

What a beautiful photo you have of this "Purple Grenadier". I would love to see what the mail looks like because they're such more beautiful birds.
The setting here is magnificent. Love the branches in the foreground and the blurred background. Perfect

Yeah unfortunately the male wasn't around when I got this shot, but do look them up online as the male is really stunning!

Hi Charlotte, It always pays to read notes, because I was thinking I've never seen this bird before! Your notes explained everything. What a cool shot! Love the dappled feathers on the chest. I also like the purple around the eye and the red beak. I think you did a great job with the lighting and focus. It's always fun to see something you never seen before. Love the setting and the bird. Very Nicely Done and a joy to view! :o) Nancy

    Hi Nancy,
Thank you SO much for your wondeful review and for that elusive extra star! Much appreciated indeed.
Yes, I thought it might make a change to post a different bird. You should look it up online, the male is stunning - but unfortunately he wasn't around when I got this shot :(

This is a beautiful contender for the contest. My only criticism would be that unfortunately, we can't see a lot of detail in his tail feathers because they disappear into the shadows. But of course, that's something you can't help. Overall, it is a really perfect portrait. The subject matter is well placed. Imagery is sharply focused, and background bokeh compliments the focal point.

Thank you for your review ABG, some detail is there when opened large, but yes you're right, in the thumbnail the tail completely blends into the dark background. But hey ho such is the bane of the photographer! LOL

Very beautiful and unique visual presented here. Thank you for sharing as I've never seen a bird like this before. She looks so serene as she sits amongst the branches. Composition is very well thought out. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you very much Maureen. No they're only found in East Africa, I thought it would be good to post something a bit different.
