A nice image but personally the face of the ballerina is a little distracting and I would have softened her features.

Thank you Karen for ypour complimentary review. I'm sorry i disagree about the face. The face in the photo is softer [so fahr as possible with stage make up]. I did give her this appearance. I tryed for some stone like texture. Metaphor for the hard work. Ballet dancing not only wore out shoes but people as well. Dancer retire from stage usually with 30 years of age.

Wonderful job. I like the nostalgic feeling that I get from this image. Also, your notes are wonderful. Nice job on the positioning of the shoes. Best wishes in the contest.

lovely composition! very nicely composed and rendered. i think adding a bit of a pinkish tint to the background would make it a very saleable poster for young girls. the sepia is a little too antique looking. it works for this, but for marketing purposes a slight change would make it very saleable!

Thank you for your through review and the kind advise truth I have trouble with that pink. It would be go against my attention. The pointe shows for female are historically pink. One reason to use sepia was just this pink. This picture is not made to illustrate sweet unreal dreams of young girls but to honer the hard and often bodily and emotionally painful way of a dancer to archive the high of her/his art. Thats why I used the stone like appearance. Sorry you are probably right but I can't come over myself and abandon my concept for a in my opinion sweet but false beauty or marketing. I don't mine this sweetness for young girls at all but for that I illustrate fairy tales. Sorry if I disappoint you. I appreciate your kindness deeply.

i totally respect your concept! it is a beautiful composition and very well conceived and rendered! adults would appreciate it for what it is, for sure. just thought from a "marketing" standpoint could also have another version. but...as a work of ART, it is fine and could be appreciated just as it is. not disappointed at all! actually, you are right on target!

Wonderful mixed media, I love it. You have composed the photo and drawing so great, I love the sepia tones here a lot and filters you have used to make this look like an old photo is really perfect for the creation. Wish you all the best for the contest.

This is a well thought out, beautifully composed and highly expressive image. I like the light and textures and having the toe "cut off" at the bottom of the picture seems to give it an extra dimension, emphasising the pain associated with pointe work.

Oh. The cut off was actually an accident. The top was supposed to be worn but not cut. But i find your point of view very interesting.
Thank you very much for your throuought and complimentary review.

Very creative work. The merging of the photo and drawing has worked very well. Often the filters can be distracting but they work very well here. Nice job, lovely presentation.

This is lovely, Cleo. (I think you meant pair and not pain in your description.) Although I know from my daughter wearing them that they are, in fact, a real pain! I really enjoy your addition of the photo behind the shoes, because it both refers to the person who may use them and also implies a sort of dancing on top of one's self. The way that you filtered the photo behind is really neat, too. Like the crackly surface contrasted with the delicacy of the shoes and the legs.
One thing I learned this weekend with ArtRage is that you can click on stencils, and then click on the upper left arrow in the box, which allows you to import a stencil from a photo file. The program makes a stencil from any photo you have and you can color it and invert it from there. It creates some really neat, print-like effects, and I will post something done that way to show you. Whatever you used for this was terrific!
I think this will do very well in the contest--best of luck, dear.

Thank so much Sara. Yes I mean Pair and not pain. Thanks I'll change it. But there must have been some connection in my brain. I wasn't a ballet dancer but I have a theater background and trained sometimes with the ballet. Never brought it much above the exercises and they won't let you train with pointe shows if you haven some years of ballet education before but I know from my friends and tried some by myself just to know about what I needed for my job.
Thanks for the tip with the stencils. I'll try that.
I didn't use ArtRage on this one. It's a mixed media for what I used a photo and a scanned into the computer older drawing on paper. There isn't any digital painting in this one. It was done in Digital Image Suite [not on the market anymore] and Paintshop. It's much the same technique I used in Shadows of the Past and Prayer but with different filters. It's something you can't sit down and finish on the same day, at least I can't. My eyes give up before my imagination. Most of it is anyway thinking the concept out after I had an idea.. Sometimes I need weeks to do only that but I have allways several projects in mine.

Thank you! that was an interesting peek into your creation process.
I often wonder what other people do when they create.
Have a great day, Cleo. :-)

Congratulations - this is lovely work. I really like the sepia and filters you have used in composing this piece.
It's amazing that these shoes represent lightness and bring delicate images and beauty to mind when really they cause so much pain and often heartache!
Good luck!

This is very nice work Cleo. It is so well thought out and executed. The merging of the two pictures is very well done. Your use of different filters has been tastefully done and not 'overcooked' (so many works get spoiled by too much dabbling). I would like to have seen the complete foot at the bottom of the image, but it does not detract from the overall image. The sepia is perfect for the picture. Very good, one of the nicest MM works I have seen in a long while. K.

Thank you so much for your kind, throuought and complimentary review and the fantastic rating. You are absolutely right about the shoe. The cut of is happen by accident. My last step was cropping the picture. My eyes are bad and usually I use a magnifying glass in addition since screens are small but I need to have the whole picture on it for cropping. I didn't this time and this is what I got. I hope to fix it in time but my previous versions are on external with a broken cable I can't replace here.
