yes beautiful model W. You have a knack for capturing these wonderful shots. Have to love the zoom to get such fantastic crisp focused shots. I do get the christmasy feel with the greens from the pine needles and and the reddish tone from the bird. good luck with the contest.

I love this photograph. I do not live in cardinal country so I've just seen photos, and only of males. She is quite beautiful.
Your composition is very well balanced and visually appealing. While your bird is centered, the branch she is resting upon is generally toward the left leaving nice open space on the right. The branch is sharp as are a few of the pine needles but the blurred needles and whites of the background really create a grand background for the cardinal, making her stand out very well.
Your exposure is excellent as are your focus, dof, and lighting.
What a pleasure to view and review. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks again for such a nice review and high rating! I could not imagine not having cardinals. This is a common bird for us.

This is a very nice capture. Good composition and details in feathers. Color seems true. I do have a slight problem with the too bright ares I maked. If you use photoshop you could try toning that down.

i am so glad you posted this. I seen a female cardinal a week ago in a book for the first time. And had no clue they looked like this. I love the way a cardinal looks and just always thought they were both red. Thanks for giving me a better shot than the books had. She is beautiful. I think this is my favorite bird now
