i have mixed feelings about herons. they were a terrible hazard for my pet fish but now i just enjoy seeing them by the local canal. this is a wonderful picture as you have captured the very instant he's made a kill. there is great motion in the bird and water but it is held perfectly still. awesome action.

What an excellent photo. You were definitely at the right place at the right time. The focus is a bit off but not enough to mark it down. I might have cropped it a bit to get the full impact of the bird catching the fish. Great job though.

They are really amazing fellows, and dive very well too! I like the position of his wings, and of course the fish! The water reflections are a nice lead in. Although the shot isn't as detailed as some, I think the action, and the great light more than makes up for that. Donkeyoatey
