Many of the best photos are taken under those conditions, like this one. Very nice presentation with the vignetting. She has a great expression. I am sure she would like this one.

You are right it is an great portrait and she looks completely unaware of the camera. I agree it is more exiting and most the time more rewarding to go the paparazzi way. I did that in all my portraits. I shoot and ask later. If one says no we always have the delete button. I think it's in the nature of human to go in the pose of how they want to be seen and think they look best. Most the time the photo looks staged and not natural.
