A beautiful crisp capture. An excellent macro shot showing admiringly natural color and excellent detail. The framing is perfect. The diagonal view of the cicada is eye pleasing and keeps the interest of the viewer. Insects in hands could be distracting, but not here. The skin color seems to emphasize the green of the bug. Best luck for the contest.

You're very welcome :-)
Comment from Life is but a dream.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw this gorgeous beauty! I too am a lover of bugs and recently posted a newly molted baby cicada in a cute contest! Guess what....NOBODY thinks it's cute...except me, so I'm so happy to meet you , fellow bug lover....now onwards with the critique.
COMPOSITION
I really like that you placed this stunning and innocent looking bug into the palm of the hand of a human who obviously loves it as well. This placement by you adds a very nice story element, can you see that? I read that Cicadas do not harm us humans but sometimes they mistake our hands for food and begin sucking on our skin!
TECHNIQUE
Technically there is not a thing wrong with how you have presented the photo.
The cicada is very sharp, well focused, the background is blurred as it should be.
There is no harsh shadowing which adds to the softness of the image and you have kept the colours true to nature. Very well done.
SUGGESTIONS
do you have a gradient tool? If you do you could have darkened around the corners by every so slightly by about 20% and that would lead the eye quickly to the main star.
There is a natural pleasantness to this image which I quite like.

Thanks for the wonderful comments. My son has actually had the pleasure of hatching a butterfly and huge moth, hopefully I can share them.

Hmmm not sure I would have that in my hand. The photo is well composed and the macro focus appears to be spot on - not sure whether it could use a little more contrast. Amazing clarity on the wing.

My son has helped me get over my fear of bugs! Thanks for the nice review.

Nice close up shot of this alien looking insect. I like the transperancy of the wings. I don't think I would like holding that in my hand lol. Thanks for sharing.

I agree about not wanting to hold the little critter. My son has actually handled almost every living thing that comes his way. Thanks for the awesome comments as I am new here and your my first reviewer!
