Well now this is most certainly a very calming and peaceful image if you ask me. The light colors of blue along with the image of white with lady in the midst of the picture really does give this a sense of it being holy and pure. I can see how it is that this might have taken you quite a while. Great work and fantastic job!

What a stunningly beautiful piece! I love the colours and the subtlety of the painting. Wonderful demonstration of just what can be achieved in PS in the hands of a master. The mythical and dreamlike quality of this image is very evocative. First class!

WOW! This is really beautiful, and so imaginative! We had a member at The Inn who painted with smudge brushes from scratch as well. It's a lot faster and gives a blended result. I've done it myself and it sure beats the dip and stroke method! But I'm too lazy to take that long on one picture, so I prefer having something to begin with. Now, however, I may just go back and try your method and hers again, since I don't have much else to do in my old age.
Your first face? I'd never have guessed it! Wonderful work... can't wait to see more.

Thank you very much for the lovely review and generous ratins. Thanks to you I learnt something new about using brushes, and it was a lot of fun creating this. Think I am hooked. I was also really amazed how well this was received. Have worked on a tree for quite a while, and it is worse than doing a face.

I'm impressed. The theme connotes fantasy and birds play into that theme nicely. She, in turn, blends with the clouds and with the snow in a form that suggest timelessness. Colors are subdued but right for this rendition. Very pleasing effort.

I think you did a great job of the painting Annie. Personally I don't think it is in the wrong category since it's obviously not a photo even if you did use a photo or parts of photos as a reference. You still did all the painting by hand and your original photo was untouched. This is how most digital artists do their 2D art work. It seems there is more confusion about whether to post these in 2d digital art or in mixed media photography or in digital compositions. The way I see it is if it takes you all day to paint like a traditional painting then it should go into 2d painting category. Even traditional artists use photos as references.
I like the soft dreamy fantasy feel of this. I think the birds look great flying through the mist. I see nothing wrong with this to suggest any improvements. All I can say is if this is your first attempt, I can hardly wait to see how much you improve in time. Looks like you can only go from perfection to perfection. LOL ;-)

Thank you very much for the lovely review. I am so glad you like this, because I was not at all sure how this would be received. I am amazed that so many thought this was rather good, and it for sure has given me an inspiration to try to do more of this. More or less finished with my second project.

I look forward to seeing it.

This is absolutely beautiful Annie I just love the dreamy concepts and theme.
Gorgeous blues and shades that make up this painting.
Adore that face and how you have blended it into the sky.
But what I really love are those two doves and their meaning.
