A beautiful and absolutely stunning pointillism drawing! I know from experience that a collection of dots takes an awful long time, so I applaud you greatly for having the patience to complete a spectacular work at this scale! Excellent blending of different colors through layering and great contrast with the white chicks standing out clearly.
I notice you said you started with lighter colors then gradually added the darker colors in. You can definitely create a sense of lighting with that technique by adding in shadows and keeping highlights present. A sense of lighting would greatly improve the overal realism.
Otherwise, the effort, skill, and consistency of the dots is incredible. A spectacular work of art! Thanks for sharing!

Perhaps you were named by your parents after Camille's son! Right Sir? LoL!

An impressive pointillist artwork rendition.
Colorful creation with excellent dot strokes & textures. It looks better on the thumbnail.
How about enhancing the color contrast & saturation a bit so that the head part would really standout? Just a friendly suggestion...
Good compositional style.
It's been a while that there's no contest in this genre...
Great overall impact!
Thanks for sharing...

    Jack Moore,

you are welcome, once again thank you, for your time and your review of my artwork, it is appreciated by me. Yes creating an image using nothing but dots by hand take time.. This piece took approximately 20 hours.

I always enjoy your insight into the art. You picture and its colours are bold and alive. They seem to unite the thought process and the concept behind it. A fine example of pointilism. Well done!

    sweetdweems,

it's more like tap, tap, tap or is that peck, peck, peck. Yes, they take time to draw, but to me the effect of each individual dot of color one against the other and the way the eye blends the dots into a cohesive comprehensive image as you look at it from 4 to 6 feet away is what makes it fun to do.

Thank you for you continued support of me and my artwork, it is appreciated.

    Have great week... Cheers!!!

Amazing art work. Too close and the image is lost. The further you get the better it looks. I haven't a 6 to give you.

pointillism..still have to remember that term. for long time i only shared my work with friends and family. didnt start promoting my work till a few yrs ago..so i had my own term of what i would call..like pointillism.. i called it dotting. depends the condense of the dots helped in shading, especially if im limited with one or 2 colors. starting out it in one colo and dotting back in with other shades and colors i called it layering. remember. no classes, just me passing the time with the markers(poor mans art) the blend of color is excellent! the shading is great! very creative penmaster! great job overall!!

    Mark,
have you ever looked at the following artist works: I was inspired to perfect the technique by some of my favorite artists: like Georges Pierre Seurat, Paul Signac,Camille Pissarro and of course his son Lucien Pissarro.

The term pointillism refers to multiple colored composition done in dots, when using a single color of dots that create the drawing it is called stippling. When you are doing dots and solid it's your own style, especially if you can make them work into a visually pleasing image.

You do some really good work when it comes to colors and how they work together to create very pleasing or interesting composition. Just keep one thing in mind, classes & reading art books give you the basics, but it's then the practicing, the experimenting and doing that gives you the skill and makes you an artist.

Have great week, thank you for you continued support of me and my work, it is appreciated... Cheers!!!

    Shamblen,

Every color seen in the drawing is a dot . I start with the lightest color dots first and then work into the darker colors. The depth of the colors is achieved by, laying one color against another color or over the color underneath it, in doing so I get a third and forth color both visually and in reality. I was inspired to perfect the technique by some of my favorite artists: like Georges Pierre Seurat, Paul Signac, Camille Pissarro and of course his son Lucien Pissarro.

This drawing is 4 3/4 x 5 1/4 and took me 12 hours to complete. I am offering it as a signed and numbered limited edition print. Thank you for your time in looking and writing the review your support of me and my artwork is very much appreciated.

    Have great day...cheers!!!

I find it difficult to rate this Lucien. The technique is excellent as in all the rest of your pointillism work. However, at first glance I did not see the baby hawks in this. My eye is drawn straight to the green stripes of what appears to be a cactus type plant. The brown in the center was a bit confusing to me till I figured out what part was a nest and what was the body of the hawks. The heads are too small on my screen to see much detail in them and that is what makes it confusing I think. I don't like it as much as the previous pointillism works so you get five for technical expertise but only 4.5 for my personal taste due to me not clearly seeing the birds defined from the nest. Maybe it looks better in reality than it does on a 700 pixel wide picture.

    skyangel02,

Like in nature I was trying to show how they are camouflaged and yet still see them if you look. The image comes together better if you look at it 4 to 6 feet away. In the photo I used as reference they are also hard to see.
I think that based on the review I accomplished what I set out to, in real life (seeing the artwork hanging) they are a little easier to see, but you still have to look.

Thank you for your time and writing this good informative review, your continued support of me and my artwork is appreciated.

    Have great week.... Cheers!!

I admire your patience and this is very nice. It is personally not my favorite type of art but your work is very good and difficult to master. The composition is lovely with the hawk peeping out.
