Well said. Spoken and drawn from the heart. I cannot understand the mentality of people who want to deliberately hurt others. Maybe they feel so rubbish about themselves that they need to take it out on someone else. I am so sorry that you were also a victim when so young - but you came through and had good carers in the end - some poor kids never do. It needs people like you who are not afraid to stand up and be counted. Too many people know what is going on and just sit back and do nothing. Unfortunately the law doesn't always protect the innocents and it is a very sad fact that many more vunerable adults and children will end up as just another statistic in a world that doesn't care enough.

I viewed this yesterday and wrote a bit then erased it because my words fell short ... your words and willingness to participate in the solution is a sign of your values and willingness to be a part of what healthy communities do ... we reach out, walk toward those suffering because we know the pain of our own suffering so we stand up for children, the disabled and those who are terrorized in our society... and we stand up to those f...ing cowards even when institutions turn their backs... Your work here is both brave and compelling honest ...

I have to give you kudos on this very unusual and very deep post. I to know what abuse is all about, that is why I'm single now and will stay that way. I lived for seven years in that hell and I won't risk that again for nothing. Luckily my kids weren't abused or I would have been in jail and I couldn't raise them from there so I left him. But I do respect the idea of coming forward and showing the world that there is life after abuse if you end up in, don't stay. Get the hell out because there are places that will help you move on and get your life back. Domestic violence is so rampant in this country it is not even imaginable. And it's hard to get women out of it, the men have them so scared of leaving. But if enough people come forward then just maybe more of them will leave that life behind. So if there is anything I can do to help you promote this idea just let me know.

Bravo! I applaud your effort to put abuse to the forefront. Too many times this is hidden or accepted. I hope she will use your drawing for good use. Maybe she can get conversation started by using it. You have such talent and it's so good to see that you use it in such an honorable way. Thank you for sharing!

Forgive you I applaud you. If there were more men like you who spoke up we could change the world. Your art is going to touch a lot of people and I am glad you did it. There is more to life than pretty pictures. GREAT JOB. I am glad you broke the cycle good on you.

I so totally agree and I that your notes along with the picture make a great statement.
I agree with you that I would not stand by, and I have friends that are being stalked, but the police say they cannot do anything unless physical contact or threat is made. I had that happen to me once and after trying to deal with the situation (he was threatening my sister and son), I finally got mad one day, walked up to him and told him to get out and if he just so much as laid a finger on my family, I, personally, would hunt him down and kill him.
He was a coward at heart.
Abusers usually are.
Thank you for this

Really strong message. This poster should be spread and published for domestic violence prevention. Very sad reality, but is happening even in some household in just in our neighborhood. Great sharp image and excellent framing. Artist Notes have a strong message and story.

Abusers are hard for me to handle, whether it is physical or emotional. Physical injuries heal but the scars are deep and never go away. You are blessed to have compassionate relatives who knew what was going on. When there is an abused child, I can barely stand it. GOod work on a tough subject. Jean

I can relate too with her story because my mother was a battered wife also.
She finally left my father when I was 5 and went to a far away place with my 2 younger brothers.
Well, this woman as sketched by MKFlood depicted graphically the plight of a wife who suffered domestic violence under the hands of her better-half which actually is her worst partner.
How many in the world right now suffer in silence being beaten helplessly until they develop nervous breakdown, insanity and finally die of domestic violence. The stats are high and still counting...
Thanks for sharing.

Such a sad but true story Mark. Your picture shows so much pain and yet hope in that he would keep his promise. I have experienced this story first hand and understand your feelings. Excellent piece showing so much emotion.
Very well done.
