Great head shot of the sparrow. Nice lighting and very sharp. Nice blurred back ground. Very nice picture.

Great job. As Sange drills into me, focus on the eye :). Great close-up and crop choices. Perfect color, clarity and detail. Charming and very appealing. I agree with you about being very impressed with the bird photographers. It is very hard to do and takes lots of patience!

Beautiful! Absolutely stunning! The detail on every little feather is just gorgeous- especially the lovely golden color of the eyes. Bird close-ups like this are so rare. Well done!

Great capture and clarity. I'm one of those "bird" photographers so I know how difficult it is to get a great shot like this. Thanks for sharing.

I am impressed by the bird photographers as well, but in my opinion this picture gives them a very good competition. Your camera must be exquisite, but you also know how to use is. Your skills as photographer are as great as your mixed media skills.

You are right the bird photographers here are fantastic, this image is fantastic too as it is "just" a simple tiny sparrow and so beautiful, your portrait is very well defined - wonderful composed, good frame, a super soft background - a total match with his body colors, fantastic color harmony and balance , pin sharp - his little face is very nice and you got the perfect timing as he just has a tiny crumb in his beak - super contrast and lighting, well done

Technically a super shot. Great focus and excellent lighting. Nice highlights on the beak and head. The eye is amazing !!The definition of the feathers is awesome. This is more a portrait rather than just simply a photo of a bird. Love the mellow tones - great colour harmony within the image. The subtle shading in the background is so complimentary to the rest of the image. Love the crumb hanging out of the tip of his beak.As to " after that experience I am truly impressed by the bird photographers on this site " - it does take a great deal of patience to get just the right shot.. I have not managed to get a shot like this but am now inspired..will try down the line...

I think most here are too chicken to give you a correct rating and review. Since birds are my specialty, I like to first applaud your efforts.
It is a nice close up of this sparrow, but the focus is soft on both eye and beak. Since I have no camera techs, my guess is your exposure time was too low. I shoot all birds on perfect sunny days at 1/2500sec to 1/3200sec. On cloudy days or rainy days I use the Kelvin Scale for white balance, so my exposure time has to be lower.
No matter what the bird is doing, standing, sleeping, flying or eating the main focal point must always be on the eye.
You have a clean shot with superb DOF, but the main focus of the bird is soft. I respect you so much and love you very much. My review is on the techs of bird photography.
Great capture Cara, but a bit soft.
;)

I thank you for the review Sunshine, but you are not consequent. You review a lot of bird shots being softer than this giving it full five.

I really like the frame and crop of this little sparrow. The detail can be appreciated in the head shot of this bird, although it does look like your focus got a little soft around the eye.

Your colors are spot on and allow us the reviewers to appreciate the natural tones and colors. The back ground is nice and soft - allowing wonderful depth to the shot.

Composition is good; incorporating the rule of thirds, depth and texture.

Nice Effort. Kathy
