Definitely achieved what you set out to do. The colors compliment each other, great technique and you are drawn to the eye. Very well done.

Looks good, good use of pointillism, well framed, nice colours. Just wonder how large this is? The bend of the neck looks good, well done!!

Quite a change in location and environment from Bison to Flamingo, but you jump well. Your colors alone suggesting the warmer, maybe tropical location. The flamingo is beautifully rendered in one of his typical poses. The pinks work perfect on the greens of the background, while the colors remain realistic. The eye of curse connects, since it seems looking directly at us. You also got your goal of creating a 3D feel due to the perfectly shading. Best luck for the contest.

[p.s. I am not exactly Rockefeller; but how much are your prints usually.]

    cleo85,
it depends on the size but this one (5 x 7 inches) is $25.00 plus 10 shipping and handling.

I too wish I had Rockerfeller's money or at least his support in him buying a piece or two.

of course if more then one person buys this print, or different prints, shipped all to the same address ( like 4 prints), the shipping and handling would be $10.00 in the USA, same deal goes for the rest of the world $ 20,00 shipping and handling.

    thanks for the inquiry.
    take care... cheers!!!

impact 5 color 5 lighting 5. technical 5 technique 5 love the capture of the Flamingo. He does stand out against the background. Like the shading the especially the color variation in his beak. Nice job. All those little dots, Serat would be proud of your updated subject and use of bright colors.

Comment from Jean A Cormier

In this piece, you have chosen a more difficult and awkward angle to illustrate but have displayed good knowledge of the technique and medium chosen. The color palette introduces a tropical feel to the work which is in keeping with the natural environment. The curvature of the neck looks natural, good shading in the elliptical shaped area on the bird itself, and a lighter background in the green area may serve to push that head out toward the viewer, giving a more 3D effect. The green strikes me as being too 'heavy' a feel as a background hue overall and the grey 'border' is distracting. The negative area at the bottom leaves me in a visual dilemma-I believe I would crop the bottom more for better overall compositional balance. The beak area is nicely done and has the appearance of 'hardness' with your introducing the feather color to the beak and providing adequate highlighting to the 'feathers' on the neck. The eye is initially drawn to the 'eye' itself, which -with a little more work-could produce a more finished look not incompatible with the rest of the piece. The lacks the depth and catch light - at least on the upload which is all I have to evaluate this piece on. You have placed it in position to be the FIRST and most noticeable element of the work, so it is prominent. Jean

I would say you accomplished your goal very nicely. The flamingo does seem to be looking right at the viewer. Beautiful flow to the neck. I imagine it was tedious and took a good deal of focus and patience to create this. Very well done.

Very elegant. I love the curve of the neck but also the turn of the head to continue that curve right down to the beak. Makes for a really striking pose and composition. Excellently done pointillism with wonderful graduation in the coloring throughout the bird and the background. The detail on the beak is quite remarkable. Perfect contrasting background color to really make the image pop as you had hoped. Makes a stunning initial impact too.

You certainly accomplished your goals on this. The curve of the neck pushes the eye right into the eye of the flamingo. Great color choices. Very good use of the technique.

You my friend have captured your intention not only with the flowing bend of the flamingos neck but the elusive eye of this incredibly beautiful, awkward and what some might say is 'not the smartest bird' in the kingdom (friend is zoologist in care of these and so many other birds)
Incredible. How long does it take for you to complete? BTW I saw a documentary the other night about Vermeer it was named "Tim's Vermeer" an inventor who never painted before to set out to figure out just how Vermeer used his light box to create such incredible light and detail .. if it does your way check it out. Keep em coming
