Very interesting looking face. I knew it was some kind of bee, but was not sure what until the title. Lovely colours, good effort with the close up. Well placed smack in the middle. Good colours for your background.

Very eye catching capture. The macro focus as you stated is tough to get a deeper depth of field. You did a great job on this one however. The colors really jump out and grab the eye. Up close this looks like one mean predator. Very well done. Thank you for sharing.

A very nice shot with fine colors and excellent depth of field. I don't think they have tongues and that is the black edge of his mandible you see.

I think an Asian Hornet looks just as much as a monster as his friends in other parts of the world. LOL You have taken a really great macro shot of him, and he is standing out so well against the nicely softened background. I can clearly see the black tongue as well.
Your focus is spot on and sharp showing such clear and well defined details in the face and the front legs, and it is nothing wrong with the exposure either.
I also think the tight cropping is working well, and the Hornet has got a perfect placement within the frame. Indeed a well taken shot Fred, and with an excellent DOF. You should do more of this.
