This is a great shot,It's looking right at you with such intensity! Your fine picture is well focused as he flew over, just look at those gorgeous wing feathers extended in flight with their beautiful markings. I'm not sure, but it appears that he may have been banded;it looks like there is something on his right leg when you enlarge the image. A very enjoyable shot,so happy that you you were in the right place at the right time! :)

His feet are bunched tightly and I hadn't noticed a band. I have seen a couple of eagles in my city that have been banded. I'll have to look closer. Thank you for your nice comments :)

They tend to nest in January and and when you find a nest you can be sure that the birds will be around. A beautiful shot with good light on the face and great detail in the underside of the wings.

Thank you! It would be fun to be near a nest :)

And what a great shot it is! Ideally it could be clearer, but otherwise it is a spectacular and perfect shot showing not only the amazing wingspan but the detail of the osprey's face as he glances toward the photographer. Daphne Oberon

Actually I got distracted by someone at the door and did not mention that despite the question of clarity, it is certainly good enough and probably the best photo I have seen of an osprey regardless. We used to try and photograph them all the time in Mexico and never got anything as god as this! Daphne Oberon

Here's lookin' at you kid. What a great shot of this magnificent bird. I like that look he is giving you. Remember the eyesight is much sharper and clearer than ours and has a telescopic range. So you are definitely being given the once over. Good placement in the frame with sharp focus especially on the face. Yes they normally soar quite high and it is usually from a nest view that one can get THE shot. Great work here Grace ~Steve
