What a wonderful job you did delineating the different colors of white and getting great detail of the bird and his shadows. I don't take pictures of anything white cause I can't get any clarity. Nice work!

Lovely capture of the beautiful Ptarmigan in her winter plumage in the snow, Pat. I love the pale pinks and lilac colours you can see in the shadows. Very good lighting and focus showing excellent detail. Lovely composition. Suzanne

Reminds me of the comic column about abstract art where there is a blank canvas titled "White on White." Except yours is not blank. I didn't know about this bird or that it was the state bird. You have done a great job of capturing this white bird on a white backdrop, The bird is well seen and with good detail. Some of the whites, especially the snow, are on the edge of blowing out, but there is still enough shadow and texture to set things apart. Well done.

Thanks so much Charles! These birds look like snow balls that are alive! I know there are some hot spots, but I loved her face and eye!

Beautiful photography of this Willow Ptarmigan (I have never seen or heard of one). She has an unusual shape small head in relation to the rest of her body. So white and yet can be well distinguished from the background snow. Wonderful capture!

This is a fine piece of photography of the state bird of Alska. I seem to have missed this during my visit to Alaska last summer! May be they come out only during winters. The light and shadows, colours and the composition have worked out well. Good effort!

Thanks so much! When you were in Alaska, the Ptarmigans would have been in their brown plumage, they are only white in the winter,it?s so they can?t be seen by predators!

Pat,
A wonderful picture of the Willow Ptarmigan in it;s winter plumage, white so it will blend into the countryside & be less easily picked off by Foxes Wolves & men with Guns! Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Thanks so very very much my friend! They will turn brown in summer, it was trippy watching them, they looked like snowballs that had come to life until I really got a good look at the face! I am honored by your six star rating!

Very well done. Your presentation draws upon not only the sight but also the imagination. This image could be either a photograph or a painting. To achieve this delicate balance is in itself a work of art.

Very well done and a cyber Six in recognition of your talent ~ Steve

I see a lot of bird pictures but this one is different. It looks very beautiful but to me it all blends in just a little to much. This photo I also though was a drawing or painting very well done!

Thanks so much for your review! Yes, these birds turn white in winter so they are not easily seen.

A beautiful bird that is well camouflaged in the snow. The exposure for all that white is perfect and the composition is elegant and the detail in the ptarmigan is outstanding.
