Pat,
A beautiful & very interesting picture of this Puffin in the process of shedding it's beak after the end of the breding season the light shining on it's glossy plumage & catching the glint in it's watchful eye. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

I didn't know this, thanks for telling us. The angle of the shot gives his eye a very forlorn look, as if it is saying, "why me, what did I do to deserve this? " Good clear focus. Good color. Nice separation from the background. Well seen.

What a great photo. The colors are bright and the details are so sharp. His eye is so incredibly shiny and I can make out the thin detailed brown/gold around the black and small white reflection. Such great notes. I was picturing him diving and soaring under water with his wings down flat to better soar thru the water. I'm intrigued by the shedding of the beak. And wonder if there is a reason for that, or if they have developed special uses for the colorful clumpy beak vs the shed version. ? Very interesting and a shot reflecting a pro behind the view finder.

Wow! Thank you so very much Kari! I am honored by your six star rating! I?m not sure why they shed their beaks, I was just told that the bright colorful beak sheds and they are left with a black , less sharp beak. I just think they are super cute!

I truly have a love for birds and I love their beaks. The contrast is fantastic on this picture. The touch of orange brings your eye right to the beak and makes it flow around the picture. And that's why I think I really like this picture. You did a fantastic job

Sounds like a painful process to me! Your fine, full and almost central composition allows us an enjoyable view of your handsome puffin. Exposure and sharpness are good. Nicely done!
