Hi Carl, welcome back!
This is a wonderful scene you have created here. I love horses and cowboys so this is very appealing to me. I am impressed by the sky and appreciate that you allowed more space for the sky , it gives nice depth to the scene. The clouds are very realistic and give a sense of motion . The rock formations are well detailed with a good show of their texture, size and shape. It's also impressive to see the light and shading and the way it emphasizes the dimensions of the rocks in lower portion as well as the crevices in the formations. The cowboys and horses are accurately placed and created to further show the depth of this scene, both horses are moving as shown by the front feet. Cowboys are well shaped with good structure and sizes that are accurately proportioned with the horses they ride. I like the bay color pattern on the near horse and the chestnut pattern on the far horse. It looks like they might stop and allow the horses to get a drink in the watering hole. I like the placement of the water in this scene and like the blue color of the water. This is well thought out and beautifully executed! It was a pleasure to view!

Thanks Pat for your five star vote and your critique I appreciate both. The reason. I had to not do much is that I have been taking care of my wife until she died in May. My days were kind of full with that. I now have time to check in more frequently.

Thank you Pat. Me too, me too. At the moment I am a ship without a rudder. I know I will come out of it. But my kids will see only
remnants of their dad as I become what I must, with or without their approval. I have much left to do.

Very nice painting, enjoy the subject matter. The contrasting colors of the sky and blue water brings out the colors of the rocks. Good job with the details of the cowboys and the landscape. Well done, Robert

The flow of the composition is good, the scene works.
The way you painted the sky, the clouds has a flow to it. The rock formation are well defined in both their shapes and colors. The position of the rider in the scene add depth.

I do think that the hoofs and how the are standing out from the grasses, need to be improved a little, especially on the rider going down, they look like they are floating, some of the grasses need to be in front of the hoofs. (I hope that makes sense.) That same rider looks a little off in how he is seated in the saddle...
other then that, I think it is a good composition.

Thank you for sharing.
have good day.
Cheers,
Lucien

I bet she did! Looks like her dream came true with this wonderful painting. Yes, those two riders do seem to be exploring a possibly dangerous location under a big blue sky. Wonder if they did find what they were looking for? Well painted!

Well,'there ya' go'',Carl!
: )
It certainly isn't my sort of thing ( as ya' know I go in for 'darker' subject matter! ) but it's definitely an attractive oil painting!
All-in-all it makes for a 'Good Show',my friend!

The cowboy in a search for next adventure is nicely presented and the details are well done on the main subject and on the landscape. Colors, especially the rocks and the sky are beautiful.
