Very nice shot, the opportunity was there and you took it. I think of this shot as very dramatic because of the lighting. The features are well focused and the picture is well framed. Thank you for sharing this wonderful head shot. Ray

Wow! This image is gallery worthy on so many levels! There is deep mystery, color blends, bokeh magic, and terrific detail!
I can easily see this on a gallery wall, Dean. Seriously.

Can't than you enough, getting spoiled to those sixes. I was very fortunate that this spectacular bird was not overly skittish. When he first landed at less than twenty feet away, I had just removed a wide angle lens but not yet reattached the telephoto lens. I somehow managed to get my act together without spooking him. He did eventually move to the far side of the pond where he remained for several minutes.

I really like this close and personal approach, and also the low key. Especially the shiny eye is well captured, and the light is falling so lovely on the bird. It is also standing out from the background in an excellent way.
The focus is spot on and sharp and it is such clear and well defined details to be seen in every part of the bird. The exposure is perfect.
The photo is nicely cropped and the bird has got such a fine placement within the frame. I think this is a truly lovely and well taken photo, and with an excellent DOF.

A heartfelt thanks! I hardly know how to respond, truly honored by you high regards. I take your comments and impressions much more serious than most other folks on the site. Just as I told Cleo, A "sixth" star from you is worth four or five of them from just about anyone else!

This bird is gorgeous. Your sophisticated lighting amplifies its beauty perfectly. Your photo has good depth and is excellent focused and exposed. The dark background emphasizes the bird remarkably. The bird-portrait is expertly composed and framed. The composition is balanced.
