This is actually a very interesting image. There is a lot going on here. There is the intricate background adding a lot of texture and the fighting finches steal the show with the wonderful colors and motion. well, captured!

Lots of things going on in this photo: we have the tree branches all over the place, and the epic battle between the birds. It's a photo filled with story and conflict, and it makes it very interesting to look at and absorbs the viewer into spending some time taking it all in. I like the aesthetics as well: the vivid yellow colors are well balanced with the way the high volume of things in the painting helps suppress their intensity. With all the things going on visually here, I can still see things easily here because of the very well balanced contrast and color values here.

This scene of the birds, he backgrounds, and the lighting is indirect and applied perfectly. The soft hues of blue and splashes of yellow let the scene pop. With that movement and low lighting, focus is not always the most critical thing in giving a great review for a very effective story telling entry.

    Lise,
    Thanks a million for your complementary review on these battling Goldfinches....yes they were taken through the Patio door with the Jesse (my Jack Russell Terrier) curled up on my knee.

Nice stop action on the two birds that are having a bit of a fight at the feeder.
They appear to be pretty well focused and clear to view, I like that we are able to see the gorgeous wings on both birds .
If you look to the right across the the top birds wing that bright overexposed bird is competing with the two birds that are the subject, I would try to remove them as they take away from this . Otherwise it's an interesting action shot.

    Pat,
    Thanks a million for your complementary review on these batting Goldfinches. If I were able to remove the birds in the background but sadly I don't have the skills to do so

Birds are strange battling over food, when it seems to seeds enough to all of them. The stop action is quite good in the birds up front, but the blown out spots at the top is a distraction. The birds are however standing out well from the background.

I am sure you know that this photo could have been sharper, but I still think it is great to see a scene like this.

The cropping has worked well, and it is quite a good balance in the composition. I have enjoyed having a look at all the finches, but the photo also has some flaws.

    Annie,
    Thanks for tasking the time to review this imperfect photo.
    I know the bird behind the feeder is little more than a blur. If I were able to clone it out I could have improved the situation but I cannot do so..... c'est la vie!

an excellent stop actin of these two goldfinches fighting for a piece of food; good framing with good focus on their head! while the wings are blurred;

Hi Susan. I love Goldfinch. They are such beautiful birds. I am struggling with this one. It is very blurry. The colors are beautiful but the details are hard to see. Perhaps it is just due to the added framing?

    Jodi,
    Thanks for taking the time to review this less than PERFECT photo of 2 battling Goldfinches in front & a third in the background who's wing is a blur. I make no excuses for my inabilty to get all the birds at different distances from the camera all in SHARP focus.....neigh impossible with a Compact camera. I'm NOT a professional photographer.
