Fledgling Great Horned Owl testing its wings

Simply stunning! Plus he's looking straight at you!
Beautifully taken, your hard work and patience has really paid off here!
Beautifully focused and with excellent dof - the one blurred wing merely adds movement to the shot.
You've 'rescued' the exposure incredibly well, which shows great talent on the editing side too!
And composition, well what can I say but perfect!
I don't think you need me to wish you luck - but I will anyway, just in case!

Your review is much appreciated, especially as my only 6 star among 11 reviews. I am actually surprised, as I consider this as one of my prize photos. Thanks again!

You're more than welcome it's definitely worthy of a six!
But you might find that the other reviewers were out of sixes as it is the end of the week - and that was my last one. So please don't get discouraged, I reckon it'll do very well in the contest!

Timothy, you caught a gem of a shot! Love the dramatic view of this owlet. The position of the wings is awesome. The excellent focus and lighting allow us to see this owlet at its very best. I so wish I could bless this with six stars but I have none left. Very impressive shot! Glad you captured the shot. Good Luck in the contest! :o) Helvi

LOL! I love the title you gave this. Yes I can see why. I guess he was taking off just as you snapped the shutter. I love photographing birds. I have a lot of them.
Very nice shot you have here!

Your title is perfect. The action of the owl's wings give a perfect measure of the effort exerted to take off on his own. The lighting is great, and the tight crop gives details of his wing structure. Nice catch.
