This is a perfectly restored Conestoga Wagon, AKA - "The Prairie Schooner".

I'm not surprised that you found this example in Springfield Illinois. Springfield like St. Louis to the South were jumping off point for the trek west.

Those hearty and courageous enough to cross the plains and Northern Rockies to reach the gold fields of N. Ca. and Oregon left from Springfield.

And as testament to this feat you have beautifully captured the image of what made it all possible.
