This is such an amazing photo. You can feel the energy radiating off of the two birds as the fight for their rights to the territory. This deserves to win!!

Bravo, a superb catch of battling swans! How many chances in a lifetime does one get to capture a moment like this?
That it is beautifully composed, has lovely colors, and is crystal clear is icing on the cake.
I especially enjoy the elegant spread on the upper swan's wing, so graceful in battle!
I have a peaceful nature and hate to see anything or anybody fight. However, this was too good an image not to spend time admiring it.

    Thank you Very much Bay!!
I?m like you in that respect, I was terrified one would drown the other as that seemed to be one of their aims, but I?ve discovered that I can witness disturbing scenes through a camera lens which I would normally find too hard to watch, it gives me a certain detachment I think.

Wow! This is an awesome entry for this contest! Nice stop action capture Charlotte! Look at that water! The two swans are in such incredible positions as they battle! I never knew that they fought by pulling each others bills! I can see that these are mute swans . You managed to stop the action of both swans and the water, technical elements were perfect to capture this incredible scene.
Very well composed to allow such a good sense of this location .well presented!
Very best wishes to you in this contest! This one should be printed and framed !

    Thank you so much Pat!!
I didn?t know that either until I watched this fight! And they really gripped hard, the upper swan pulled the lower one almost half way up on a couple of occasions!

Charlotte,
A beautiful stop action picture of the Mute Swans the Pen balancing above the falls & the Cob below leaping up to her. The water droplets falling over the Cob frozen by your fast exposure. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus. Good luck in the contest.

    Thank you so much Susan.
Oh so it?s a male and a female? I had immediately assumed it would be two males. So would they still fight over territory? As that did seem to be what the fight was about, you know so much about birds, I?d love to read what you think it might have been about.

    Charlotte,
The Cob/male is below he has a larger black knob on his beak the Pen/female is above I think it might be a fight over food as their beaks are close but not touching.

Also their mating ritual can be almost violent to watch.

Oh interesting, thanks Susan - I don?t think it was food as there seemed to be none around, and they were using their bills to fight (grabbing each other?s and pulling as hard as possible!). So maybe it was part of a mating ritual.

    Thank you Brian!!
Well it did take a lot of work and effort to find them, I had to trek far and deep into the dense wilderness of . . . Colchester Castle Park! Lol
