The fact that you chose to have the subject's face fill the whole frame really adds to the mood of mystery that I see. Your use of the mixes of media really works well. I like the blend of colors on the face, her hair, and beret and how you bring it all together. Lovely.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much, I often mix watercolor, watercolor pencils, markers, gel pen, and acrylic. They all work well together and each have a slightly different aesthetic. Thanks again.

Incredible use of mixed media. I think what I love most about this piece is that it's not only visually interesting but that the description of it makes you think more deeply. I love the hint of blue for her eyeliner. The hat has a nice Smokey vibe. Shadows are done very well. Great work.

This is so good and the lady has an air of mystery about her, sort of an old fahioned figure out of a avant garde film,it reminds you of another age if that makes sense, really good and envy someone who can paint like this...Brian

I must say the words are just as powerful as the image. This lady looks very stern and very serious - like she's heading into a court battle and intends to be the last 1 standing! I want to cheer her on in her obvious determination!

Thanks Amber, just curious, you said nice things but only gave 4 stars, what did you think I should improve? Thanks again. L.

This is a very well put together portrait. Much thought is given to the colour, composition and shading. Very eye catching and alluring. Nicely done

I love this portrait of you wearing your favorite hat and contemplating. I agree with your premise. Some just look and then there are those who see. I think that covers it. The best of luck in the contest. Ray

Thanks Ray, I appreciate that you read what I wrote about the piece. I really do try to see from all perspectives and be open to change so this was a little self reflective as well. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much. I worked on this piece for weeks, almost every day adding and tweaking. Feelings are so difficult to capture but I'm happy with how this finally
turned out. Thanks so much for your kind review.

This is such an excellent watercolour drawing, I'm very impressed! Beautifully rendered with great detail and lovely natural looking colour.
She makes me think of a woman from the French resistance during WW2, not too sure why, perhaps it's the tilted hat! Lol
Very best of luck in the competition, this would definitely get my vote!

Thanks so much Charlotte, my boyfriend actually said the same thing about it looking French. That's kind of why I went with Optique instead of just Optic. Thanks your great review and all the stars!!!

You?re more than welcome Lisa, it?s well worth a six and more!
Ha I hadn?t even noticed the Optique v Optic, but very pleased you both agree with me! :)

Oh my goodness. I love this so much. Especially your words.
But now for the art.
Watercolor pencils are so awesome and I am just learning how to use them. So it thrills me to see this great work!
The features of this beautiful woman, are wonderful! Love the faux fur collar and intensity of her one eye staring back at me.
I do however see she could be a tad ticked off. :)
Very nice.

Hi Jewell, thanks so much, her fur collar is actually her hair, coming out of the hoodie but that's cool, I'm ok with fur. As for her state of being, she's not ticked, just in melancholy reflection which is difficult to convey but I did my best. We all have things we would like to change about our art but again, it's also what my piece is about, learning to be objective and the essence of perception. What we may view as a flaw, is often beautiful to others so we must accept that reality, learn from it and adjust. Thank you so much for your kind review.

I didn?t have an issue with her melancholy mood. That?s cool. I like the way you think. You did a great job!
-
Thanks Jewell! I love your name by the way.

Hi April, thanks for the review, you had nice things to say, just curious why only 3 1/2 stars?
