What I find unique about this picture is the wave breaking over the rock in the foreground. It has a strong initial impact, and a center of interest that keeps one looking.
My only suggestion for improvement is to crop a bit at the top of the photo to give better balance.

Thank you for you generous review and your helpful suggestions. I cropped the picture but it never occurred to me to crop of the top because I liked the blue above the clouds but I will certainly take your suggestion in consideration.

For me, the attraction is the splash of the wave. you can capture it will well. The sunset as the background has a beautiful color. Is it real or retouch? The cloud a bit messy, but thats's ok. After all this is a good pic. Keep up. ^^

Thank you for your generous review. No there is no retouch. Its all real including the messy cloud I didn't want to correct nature. I hope you don't mine a little correction: It's an sunrise.

Sorry, that I even mentioned that. Most people think is a sunset. I think sunrise and sunsets have so much the same colors that the difference is hard to tell. Surprisingly for me most reviewers think it is a sunset. You were just the first one were I read it. It's probaly because most people are more used to see the sun rising over land and sinking into the ocean.

you right each sun set is like a ever changing canvas a constant picture in action changing all the time and allway's different this is a a wesonme shot i like the water you caught splashing up to the sky good catchdrop's are really high the sky is beautifull great field of depth and presentation arthound

You know what I like about this sunrise dear heart? The splashes of water that came with it. Truly Gods creation in form and everyday its totally different and a mystery but a wonderful mystery. Thank you for sharing your magnificent photos.

You do love your sunsets don't you. I assume that is because you are good at it. Again you have well controlled sun with minimal burned highlight and no banding frequently seen in sunsets which come close to burned highlights. Indeed, you sky is excellent. You have come low with your camera and tried to capture waves, which is another good thing.
There are two reasons why I deducted a point from your score. First, you need to "fill light" in software to bring up some details in your water. However when you do that, you are likely to find out that your water is not "frozen" and the details will be soft. I would go with shutterspeeds of no less than 1/500 sec and preferable 1/1000 sec to freeze water. The alternative is long exposures (of about 1/4 sec) to get a nice silky effect. Your shutterspeed is in between.
The result of all that is that you foreground reduces, rather than enhances the effect of sunset. I hope that this helps. Pavel

Thanks Pavel, as always a great and helpful review. I tryed to fill light in software but it is exact what you assumed. The water doesn't look to good.
I'll try your suggestions. I'm afraid the long exposure will be inpossible. I can't use a tripod in this situation. It is just inpossible to mount one on our beach. For this photo I was on my belly head down on the steep angled rocky beach camera hand hold near the water. I'm just not stable enough for long exposure. But the shutter speed should work.

There is no usch thing as too many sunrises and sunsets, that would be like too many flowers, lol. This is really a lovely shot, and I vole the splash of water, an nice break in the action. You do very well with your Point and Shoot camera I must say. Shirley

But may I correct. My cameras aren't point and shoot. For this picture I used my Sony DSC-H9 what is a good middle class camera [I think about $ 500,- in the US]. What means all flaws in my photos now and in future is my fals never the camera as in point and shoot.

Hi Cleo, I didn't mean to insult your camera but I guess I refer to any camera that is not a DSLR as a point and shoot. Acutally the DSLR are often used as a point and shoot because you can set them into the different modes and let the camera do the work. I have seen some very good photogrphy with the Cybershot cameras, but the type of photography such as you see done by Smokie and Ranbo require the ability to change the lens and manually all of your settings. Thanks for your Re. Actually I can change lenses on this camera and set the settings manually. Truth I have often some of the automatic settings.
I dislike to talk about but I think I have to explain: The digital age saved me from giving up photography. I can't use my old film cameras anymore. My eyes are to bad for the view finder. I need that big LCD but even there I have often trouble to read the menu. That' when I use automatic. Most of the time these bad eyes are a blessing since my tunnel vision let me see as a camera dos. I see a picture in my mine before it is taken and without looking though a view finder.
Please ignore what I just said about my eyes when reviewing my photos.

Very beautiful picture! I love the lovely sunset in the background with the ocean water splashing about in the air. I can appreciate that beauty very much because I live in Colorado where there are no beaches. The only thing I wished with this photo is that there was a little more clarity. Thank you for sharing :)

Thank you for your generous review. The clarity is a bit of a problem. It was hazy over the water [100% humidity]. The shutter speed wasn't ideal for the wave below but it wasn't set for it.I actually didn't suspected the water coming that height. The splash was a gift.
