Dolphin jumping in open sea

I don't know a thing about digital painting on blank canvas, cleo.

I don't even know a thing about digital painting. I've never done any. I don't even know how to use a brush stroke. lol.

And I thought all artists use a blank canvas. lol. I'd never even thought about using one that isn't blank.

So this isn't a review. I just wanted to let you know I find it free and easy and flowing and with a style that says - freedom of the open sea.

Love your ability to go from one extreme to the other. This is nearly child-like in it's simplicity of expression - as compared to some of your works that are so involved and sophisticated.

What could be any better than to visually see what you're expressing. The smile on the face and the flip of the tail, the arching body and the flapping flippers, all say he's dancing in mid-air.

Got a freedom and a talent I haven't seen in any of us humans yet.

    Thank you so much.
Yes you are so right. The Dolphins have the freedom and the talent. They seem always to me always smarter than I am for some reason. I wished I could learn their language.
For the painting. I do things like this when I need to calm down. It needs concentration. I'm still learning these digital paintings were you start out with nothing. It seams easier to do as it is. I find it still more complicated to mix digital colors then the traditional colors for example.
The blank canvas? It really hasn't anything to do with regular canvas. It means nothing else than it is made completely digitally without edition of photos or scans. There was nothing than a white screen to paint on. Thats different than for example the reef picture with the mermaid. The mermaid was panted on a photo. The Dolphin was painted on a white screen [blank canvas] I could scan a scratch into the computer and fill it digitally with color. That wouldn't be a blank canvas because I start digitally painting with a scratch what is already there.
    Are you confused jet? SORRY
Thanks again for your as always uplifting review.

Now I know - what a blank canvas is - that is. Confusion cleared up. My first lesson in digital painting on a blank cavas 101. I get the idea there is much more to learn. lol. I think I better stick with the camera for awhile.

It's different to paint digital. These brushes and colors seam sometimes to have their own idea how they want to look but there is one advantage: I just delete when a brush won't cooperate.

    Ha! Great advantage.

This is very good in all it detail of highlights and shadows. I can even see a swish from a blow hole. The over all photo seems blurry for some reason. Maybe try and upload once again.

Thanks so much, for your kind and generous review. It is somehow blurry because it is not a photo but a painting. It is digital but I tried to give it a oil paint texture.

Ahh! I see, I read that it was digital painting. But I do not know how that transfer over. I hear digital and think high def. lol
The oil look is what you were after. Ok, very nice.

Thanks for understanding. Digital painting doesn't has anything to do with high definition or even photos. It is like traditional painting. There is a white screen were colors are painted on.

What a wonderful digital artwork you have created. I really like the way you have had it jumping out of the water like this. Makes for an interesting composition. The colours you have used work well for this. Excellent compostion!

Well done cleo. What a wonderful entry for the contest. Great lines and tones predominate this piece. The waves of the ocean and the curing of the dolphin make a wonderful impact for the viewer. Good luck in the contest. Travlin1

I like the loose style of this. I actually thought I was viewing a traditional painting at first. I like the colors and the style. Great job on the dolphin. Good job.

Thank you for your generous review. That is actually what I tried to archive: The look of an traditional painting. I have to admit it needed a lot of experimenting to get this textures and mixed colors.

Hi Cleo, this is really nicely done with the use of software. Composition is balanced well and the details in the use of colors and shading are good. I like that you used very few colors, keeping it simple yet appealing to my eye. Eleanor

Thank you Annie. We don't see them often. We have the Great Mayan barrier reef parallel to our coast. The Dolphins won't come inside but we see them once in a wile on a boat rite. It is really exciting when these friendly fellows follow the boat.
