Chose to review this one of my favorite subjects, because it grabbed my attention. Like the water on the flower. Sometimes carry a Misting Bottle with me, to add them in dry Arizone

Comparing your image on my calibrated monitor, with a zone scale, see a good range of zones.

Lets take a look at the Impact - Strong 6

It has lots of impact, with specific points of interest.

Lighting 5
Appropriate. Natural appearing lighting of an interesting subject, with open shadows...

Composition - 5
In composing, we want to choose a powerful interest point, put it into the position with most impact. You have done well with this.

Creativity: 5

Well balanced, interesting patterns of light and shadows, good detail in mid-tones, and highlights.

You have done very well with this image, will enjoy seeing more.

Artists use colors which express what they "feel" about the image. Not just ones that are real or "technically correct." If someone does not like your colors, they may do not speak your language. Neither you or they are wrong, just have different opinions.

Only if, _we_feel_ it is not the way we want, should we change it to suit others. If we change it, those who like it, will not.

Story - 5

Images are worth thousands of words. The best require no words to describe, not even a Title.

When your work communicates emotions or ideas and effects the viewer, a Story has been told.

Thank you, I appreciate your encouraging review very much. The water droplets are real rain and you are right; the light is so natural as the colors.

Nice shallow depth of field. The composition is good and the exposure is perfect. I also like the contrast between the pink and the green.

Thanks for sharing.

Good story. Nice shot of this plant. Like the background/bokeh. The water beads look good making the petals look refreshed. They are scented well. I remember them from Hawaii in 1974. Lighting, colors and details are nice. 'Enjoyed and good luck in the contest.

I know this as frangipani and in australia they are white with a lovely yellow centre. I have seen some with a little pink in them but never such a rich magenta. Love the raindrops so nicely capture.

Thank you very much. I know this tree has as many names as is comes in many colors. I have now seven different in my garden. I raise them from seats and it seems that nature hybrids them to new variants.

A nice shot of this pretty flower. Well framed, and vivid color. It is nice to look at.

Good focus, dof could be better. Bokeh is good.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much for your kind review. I what way could the DOF be better?
reply by LarryB on 07-Nov-2010
Well lets see, the wh ole flower is not in focus. I gave you a 5 rating, so I must have liked your shot. I can change it to a 41/2 if you prefer.

As you wish, the rating is not important to me. I need to know what reviewers find wrong in order to learn. I agree. The whole flower is not in focus but this is conceptional. Only the top of the one petal in the middle left and the rain drops on it are focused in order to archive the desired Bokeh effect. Do you think this concept is wrong?

I am not trying to be a problem for you. I have had such problems with some here. I don't want to be that way. Your question is valid.

Your answer lies in two parts. 1st, You could have bokeh effect behind the whole plant. It is just another stop or 2. Not hard. 2nd, the flower can have areas of selective focus.

To often here the term selective focus is used when it wasn't a planed technique. Rather an excuse for poor execution.

Which is right, I am not saying either is correct. I use both carefully. Your effort is ok if you intended selective focus. Then good job. My review was based on it was a shot worthy of a 5. My judgement of dof was based on it looked to me as a missed dof.

I am sorry, that is the truth.

Don't be sorry. I don't know for what. You aren't a problem for me in any way but merely refreshing. I find our discussion highly interesting. It has so much more substance than the usual review. I would give you a reviewing vote if it wouldn't compromise my incognito. I make it up when there is not a blind contest between.
It is right, I intend on selective focus with the second flower out of it. My camera has the feature of so called flexible spot AF were I set the focus on spot on what ever I select. You are right the DOF of the second flower and the background could be more defined but I have to admit I wasn't going for it. I liked the somehow flattened background because it is not what is usual in our digital age.

Interesting capture of the flowers. The rain drops add some wonderful visual interest. The depth of field works really well for the competition and is very appropriate for the subject. For me the image just a little dark, I would like to see it a little brighter. I like the color palette in the image the green background allows the rich pink/red of the flowers to standout in the foreground. Nice image good luck in the competition.

Thank you for your kind review. I left the image in the natural light of the dark day to show that it was taken in the rain but I will take your input in consideration.
