A fabulous shot of these ferns merging together. Lovely dark background to make the green really stand out like it is glowing. Excellent entry for the contest!

Nice capture!! I find this composition is very captivating indeed, since, as you point out, the fronds have created a natural spiral. The contrast is plenty sharp enough to really draw the eye into the spiral and, thus, movement through the frame is extremely strong. (And since the spiral leads into the center of the photo, the eye is never lead out of the frame, which is a mark of a strong composition). The light green on the black background, complemented by strong focus and a most appropriate depth of field, gives the composition its effectiveness.
I'm not sure if you shot this during (or shortly after) a rainfall, but the green really has that quality to it.. colors tend to saturate a bit more when wet, and I find they are popping here, but popping in a natural way. Whether wet or not, the even lighting is doing wonders for this photo... patchy lighting may well have disturbed the eye's flow.
An awesome natural abstract, thanks so much for sharing it!

Thank you for your positive feedback, this was taken in New Zealand during a trip there and the greens seem so much greener than in Australia perhaps as they have a milder climate :) Mary
