Hi Lucien,

To do a drawing dot by dot has got to be extremely difficult to do. I think you did an amazing job of creating both horses and their features. Love the tones of the dots that make up the bushes, grass and the horses. Must take a LOT of patience to create work like this. Though I am not a fan of the pointilist style. I definitely admire the work that goes into its creation!

Well Done! :o) Helvi

    helvi2,

Why not a fan? The challenge for me is or the idea is how do colors work together and affect one another, & then how to manipulate them use them, to create a visually pleasing image.

Every color seen in the drawing is a dot applied by hand. I start with the lightest color dots first and then work into the darker colors. The depth of the colors is achieved by, laying one color against another color or over the color underneath it, in doing so I get a third and forth color both visually and in reality. That layering of the dots of colors is what creates the color harmony and depth within the drawing. I was inspired to perfect the technique by some of my favorite artists: like Georges Pierre Seurat, Paul Signac,Camille Pissarro and of course his son Lucien Pissarro.

This drawing is 5 x 7 and took me 12 hours to complete. I am offering it as a signed and numbered limited edition print. Thank you for your time in looking and writing the review your support of me and my artwork is very much appreciated.

    Have great day...cheers !!!

I am amazed at the detail you achieved with your poinilism technique. I bet it took some time. Must say i haven't tried that, but your work here makes me curious and want to.
Love the use of colours and how they echo back and forth throughout the picture.
Well done !

Excellent piece of work. I love the expressive faces on the horses and their connection to each other. The head and mane of the horse in the foreground is especially good.

I took my daughter to the Coultard Gallery at Summerset House in London. We went to look at a show containing a range of impressionist painters and saw 'Young Woman Powdering Herself ' by Seurat.
I may have to get some markers and have a go at this style of artwork.
Thank you for sharing your information and pictures.

You have done a amazing job. I am familiar with the pointillism method and the famous A SUNDAY ON LA GRANDE JATTE by Georges Seurat, which took two years to do (1884-1886). So I know that a lot of time was required from you. You have good composition and good use of light. You must have a lot of patience.

I know you worked before in pointillism, but this seems somewhat different than what I have seen before. I think its the colors, but that is just a personal impression which could be wrong. Nevertheless, I do like those colors very much and I am amazed about the detail you have archived in this special technique.

are you new to pointilism? this is good! nice details the colors didn't come off as real but I know I have trouble with the copyer making the color disappear. but I like it any way. I have been working on some large dot pointilism and it is fun to play with.

    Doris1022,

No not new to the technique of using dots to create a drawing. I started out doing Stipple (in 1976), black and white dots to create the entire drawing (looks at some of the books in my portfolio and you can see what I mean.) The pointillism technique (colored dots)in about 2001.
