What a fabulous fantasy art work Cleo. I really like the design very much and that little pop of colour lifts the image and adds to the magical quality of it. FAR won't allow another 6 for you yet - but here's a cyber 10+. It's not actually a genre of art that usually appeals to me but this one does hugely.

Thank you very much. Who needs a six when she gets reviews like this? Thank you very much for the cyber 10, but your review is of even greater value. I am happy you like it. The speech of color is Gerda, who is rushing you the rescue. She has the only color in this world of snow and ice, because she is the only one with warm blood and human emotion on this world of snow and ice. Her friendship and love will finally save Kai and give him back his warm feeling heart. This one was always one of my favorite fairytale.

Such a wonderful piece of art you've created. I really like your attention to detail and how you've left the girl on the bottom right in full color. I can really get a sense of your creative ability/talent by looking at this piece. Really cool.

Thank you very much for your encouraging review. The girl is in full color because she is the only one with warm blood and human emotion in this cold world of snow and ice.

Very apt for the fantasy contest. Good Luck in that. Like the monochrome tones but with just a touch of girl from the small child in the lower corner of the picture. All the blurring and twinkling is very attractive and adds to the feeling of a fantasy world. Like the composition which has been creatively constructed.

It has been many years ago since I heard this fairy tale. Glad you refreshed my memory with your notes.
Seems like a lot of work went into creating this image.
Some nice textures and the colours blend well together.
This is magical, not scary!
Nice work, good luck in the contest.

Very exceedingly lovely digital drawing/painting! I'm just now getting into digital 2D myself, so I appreciate the work that went into this. Love the choice of black and white with little touches of color. Beautiful! :)

Very well composed and painted.
I bet this is very impressive in person with metallic paint and glitter.
I like that she is slightly off-center and the children are in the lower third.
Thank you for sharing!

Hi Cleo,
First let me say thank you for sharing the story of Snedronnigen. I've never heard this story before.
Love the way you did this. You've made it a magical piece. I beauttiful crystal shards of ice in the image. In Snedronnigan's world of white a sparkling snowscape surrounds her. You open the imagination with this and allow us to see fear bryond the image itself. Love the shapes amd musdtery that lies within. THe only thing I wish is that the image was BIGGER! LOL
Very interedting and imaginative! Good Luck in the Contest! :o) Helvi

Thank you for your kind and very encouraging review and the kind wishes. This story is a favorite of mine since my childhood. Actually the tale of Kai and Gerda is a frame story in which several other stories are embedded.
The original painting is bigger [8.5" x 10"], truth not as big as some of my others. It;s because most of my paintings are created for canvas print; but this one is made as a book illustration.

i remember "the snow queen" from childhood and like several of Hans Christian Andersons tales i always remember it as beiing quite desturbing , this on the other hand is winderful , so imaginative (something i could never do) , abrilliant concept and so well executed , not at all scary

Disturbing? Mm, It was always my Andersen favorite even ahead of the Little Mermaid. It is one of the nicest, it even has a real happy end. Evil versus good, but good wins. Gerda and Kai live happily ever after. There is even some little humor in the tales which are embedded in the frame story. Well, Maybe its not obvious for little kids. Most of those Andersen Fairy Tales are not written for kids but metaphors for adults often based on folktales. It was the time of the early Romantic Realists who used the form of fairytales. Most of those tales[Andersen, Perrault, Hauff, Moerike], even the collections of the Brother Grimm were not written for children, but later made to children literature.

yes Brothers Grimm especially so , but like you say as a child no-one told you that lol I still cant remember what i found disturbng about the snow queen but its still stuck there in the back of my mind lol

Well, I think the most disturbing for you probably was that a beautiful looking woman has an heart of ice and a most cruel mind and is representing pure evil.

lol thats true and put me off women for life lol (not quite true ) lol :-)

I had the feeling, that couldn't be true. LOL
