you must live in the north, huh? i've never seen one of these in the south. i love these birds :) and your photographs are absolutely amazing. i mean, the amount of detail, DOF, colour saturation, and the perfect exposure are great :)

Thank you so much! These birds range from Canada to south Florida.

What a beautiful photo! You really caught the wing spread and even a side view of the heron's face. The green of the water is a perfect backdrop for this photo and really makes the heron pop! Excellent. I see why you won the contest.

Yeah,Willie!
These large wetland birds are pleasantly impressive creatures, aren't they?
They make me think of how certain prehistoric flying reptiles ( the mid sized Pterasaurs ) might have looked from certain angles! : )

Thank you so much! Yes they are impressive and I spend hours trying to get shots like this. I love to here them when disturbed the way they look and sounds does remind me of the dinosaurs.

See you still playing stalker to this bird lol. Look like he is reaching out for the phone to call the police on his stalker lol. All joking aside this is a great shot. I love how you capture these awesome birds.
You got perfect focus and awesome timing and great color!
Awesome job!

very good capture revealing the full span of his wings. good POV.
The light in the picture, seems to shine brightest on his wings, helping to create an already clear focal point.
nice exposure.
The wonderful green blurred backround contrasts and also promotes our eye zap on the wings.
Glad you included the log and also left a ggod amount of space above his head. Space on the sides good too.
Nice definition on the wings.
well done.

A wonderful shot and so appropriate for the contest. Good Luck in that. Read your notes re wing span which I found interesting so thank you for providing thos. A beautiful bird beautifully framed by the deep green tones of the water. Spot on focus and lighting. Great shot.
