Brilliant picture of your handsome Great Dane looking down on you with one brown & one blue eye ears cocked trying to read your mind. His coat matching his background yet he is definitely seen in three dimensions against it. Artistic composition beautiful lighting superb camera techniques & sharp focus. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Great capture of this lovely dog looking down at you from the wall. It's unusual to see one brown and one blue eye. The pupils are of different size so I wonder if he is actually blind in the blue eye. I like the background colours which blend in well. Lighting and focus very good. Very nice composition. Good luck in the contest. Suzanne

Thank you very much for the lovely review. I don't think the dog was blind on one eye though, even if I cannot explain the different size of the pupils.
Comment from Life is but a dream.
Just a dog, but it took your eyes to see the beauty and also a bit of a ragamuffin look to him.
He could very well be homeless, and certainly he shows great concern at being photographed or was he concerned for your high stretch! He could be a rescue dog thinking he would have to jump down to save you and your camera.
I adore this photo, yes it's a dog, not doing much, just looking concerned, ears askew, wrinkled snout but his good eye has connected with me and I wonder if he is blind in the other eye, was he abused or is this just genetics at work. I adore the photo because it yanks at an emotion within me...I recognize that I adore this dog and you as the photographic artist communicated this feeling to us through this image, you too adore this animal.
This image is infectious it unites me with your photo. Also it underlines the fact that I am a true blue blooded dog lover and can't understand why people mistreat man's best friend, or worse, like in areas of Asia, eat them. (in China they are called "fragrant meat")
Sorry, I'm blabbering all caught up in the emotion of the photo.
Let me address your technical before I sign off. Topaz, lens effect, really? What does lens effect do...I like it, have it and have never used it, tell me about it.
Love the half and half background highlights the half brown eye half blue eye, and you didn't think we'd notice...ha!
See that little blue pop of colour up top and to the right, at the very edge...take that down, and clone in the brown....
Well framed, balanced, exposed perfectly, dof showing all details ...in camera and post camera techs purrrrrrrrrrfect.
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
woof.

Thank you so very much for the wonderful review Olga, and of course also for the six stars. Topaz Lens Effects can do a lot of different things for your image. Like graduated colors, pinhole effect, streak effect, tilt and shift, polarization, dual tone, fog, UV haze, creative blur, fisheye and a lot more. Still I usually use just Graduated natural density, reflector sharpening and adjustments of light, saturation, shadow and highlight. It is very useful to give your photo the last finishing touch.

Thank you for telling me that, I will have to look into it. You do use it with expertise. I only recently purchased that filter bundle thanks to the artists on FAR.

Hi, Well I just looked at my Topaz Lens Effects...need an engineering degree, but that's OK...it will keep me busy and keep me out of trouble.

This is quite spooky! Rather than take the dog's photograph I think I would have fled! The blue eye certainly stands out and it has a rather hypotonic affect. I do like the treatment you have given the background. One part is very similar in colour to the dog's fur but because of the textures it has not bleed into the shape of the dog. The turquoise colour on the other side gives a boost of different colour which compliments the beige tones. Your framing is very good (read your notes to see how difficult it was to get the shot) and your focus is very good too. Just find the dog a bit eerie!

I think you did a wonderful job capturing that look on his face. And the eyes are just fantastic. You really don't see to many dogs with this particular set of eyes. And he is looking very serious at the moment, I'm not so sure he really liked being placed above you. He looks a bit frightened. And I don't know what the background was you used but the colors in it are fantastic, I love the multi-colored shades and the texture of it. Really a great photograph. Your focus and clarity are great. I like when you look at a photograph of an animal and you can see the individual hairs in his fur, or the whiskers and the black dots where they are growing out from. Actually I think I can see up his nose. So focus is great. Your balance and frame are really good also. I think you did an excellent job capturing this photograph, it's really a good one.
